System recognizes DVD/CD drive but does not read drive, display content.

The Community can not provide any assistance without some details ...

So, please provide the following:
1) detailed model number of the PC
2) Age of the PC
3) Detailed description of the problem -- including the EXACT wording of any error message being displayed

Once you provide the needed details, someone will reply.

Model  S01-pF1027c    Bought in November, just got stuff moved from old 32-bit HP to current computer and started using a few weeks ago.  Insert a disk in built-in drive, it whirs and nothing happens; no message. Connected external drive; same thing, whirring, nothing else. No message. Both show up in device manager with up-to-date drivers.
