Hi @edhchou,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you've changed settings in the CMOS and are now unable to see the CMOS screen upon reboot, you can try a few methods to reset it:
1. Remove the CMOS Battery:
- Power Off: Shut down your laptop completely and unplug it.
- Access the CMOS Battery: Open the laptop casing to locate the CMOS battery (usually a small, round battery).
- Remove the Battery: Take out the CMOS battery and wait for about 5-10 minutes to ensure the settings reset.
- Reinstall the Battery: Put the battery back in, reassemble the laptop, and try to power it on again.
2. Use the CMOS Reset Jumper:
- If your laptop has a CMOS reset jumper, ensure you are using it correctly:
- Locate the Jumper: This is usually near the CMOS battery.
- Reset the Jumper: Follow the motherboard’s documentation for the correct pin configuration (usually moving it from pins 1-2 to 2-3 and back).
- Wait: Leave it in the reset position for about 30 seconds.
3. BIOS Reset via Key Combination:
- Some laptops allow you to reset the BIOS by pressing a key combination during startup (like F2, F10, Esc, or Del). This varies by manufacturer, so consult your user manual or look online for the specific keys for your laptop model.
4. Check Power Supply:
- Ensure the laptop has sufficient power. If the battery is removable, try booting with just the power adapter connected (without the battery) or with a different power supply.
5. Leave It Powered Off:
- If all else fails, leave the laptop powered off (with the battery and power unplugged) for several hours or overnight. This can sometimes reset components.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
