OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-2000i (83N29AV)

Hello community,

I'm wondering how can I disable IOMMU on an HP OMEN as I get an error message "An input-ouptut memory management unit (IOMMU) appears to be enabled on this system" when I tried to install a well known software.

I tried to look into BIOS (actually "OMEN Setup Utility") but I can't find any options related to IOMMU.

I also find the question on reddit and appearently I'm not the only one with the problem.

Thank you very much in advance

@yangcyself, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

We see that you are trying to disable IOMMU on your OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-2000i (83N29AV), this can be bit tricky.

Please try these steps,
Option 1: Try Unlocking the Advanced BIOS Menu

Some HP motherboards have hidden advanced BIOS settings (including IOMMU options), which can sometimes be accessed via a key combo at boot:

  • Turn off your PC completely.
  • Power it on and immediately start pressing:
    F10 to enter BIOS.
Once in BIOS, try pressing Ctrl + F10 or Ctrl + A or Fn + Tab (three times) and then F10 again to reveal hidden settings.
  • Look for an "Advanced" or "Chipset" tab — if it appears, you may find an IOMMU setting there (can also be called Intel VT-d, AMD-Vi, or DMA Remapping).

Option 2: Disable IOMMU via Boot Parameters (Linux Only)

If you're using Linux, you can disable IOMMU using kernel parameters instead of BIOS:

  • Edit your GRUB config:
    sudo nano /etc/default/grub

  • Add the following to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line:
    iommu=off

  • Save and run:
    sudo update-grub

  • Reboot your PC.
This method works without touching BIOS and is suitable if your IOMMU issue is only affecting Linux-based tools.

Unfortunately, On most OMEN systems, IOMMU can't be disabled via the default BIOS UI. Consumer (models) BIOS is limited.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
