Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I have a Windows 11 Home, 64 bit, Version 23H2 with a UEFI Bios,  HP computer that i own. How can I check to see if i have on my Computer  if i have Absolute Software's Lojack or Computrace software  iinstalled and if i do, how i can disable it ? It was detected by our antivirus on our HP  laptop that is also windows 11 with a UEFI Bios , but is version 22H2 currently.

Research that i  have done advises that it is legit software preinstalled in the UEFI Bios boot system designed to allow me as the owner or manufacturer or software company i suppose to track and find my computer or laptop if ever i need to have this done if it gets lost. However, information  also advises that the nature of the software uses  files called rpcn.exe , rcpnet.... that allow it to function but these files also carry a high vulnerability risk of opening up a remote communication hole to any type remote intrusion by malware, hackers, etc.

They to check the Secure Boot section -Bios and then select COMPUTRACE Moduke Interface to say "Disable" which will ensure that it is then Off. Or to also make some Registry edits to complete the process. I'm not sure if i understand the steps correctly  on the process or how to first verify if my system even has it on this particular desktop computer to proceed.

Can you assist ?

Thanks.

Hello I have the same problem and was wondering if you found a solution

I found this article with instructions, seems legit.

I have not tried it yet but wil try it later.

Oke, i've done it.

Follow these steps.

Step 1

Download and install The HP "HP Client Management Script Library"

This will add HP commands to powershell.

https://www.hp.com/us-en/solutions/client-management-solutions/download.html

Step 2

Run Powershell (admin mode)

Press start > search powershell > right mouse click  "run as Admin"

If powershell shows "PS C:\Windows\system32>" you are in admin mode.

If powershell shows "PS C:\Users\.." you are NOT in admin mode.

Run the following comman to enable The HP script.

1.

PS C:\Windows\System32> Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

The following message should appear:

Execution Policy Change
The execution policy helps protect you from scripts that you do not trust. Changing the execution policy might expose
you to the security risks described in the about_Execution_Policies help topic at
https:/go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=135170. Do you want to change the execution policy?
[Y] Yes [A] Yes to All [N] No [L] No to All [S] Suspend [?] Help (default is "N"):

Type "Y" to allow th hp script to run.

Now you are Ready to  disable Absolute Software's Lojack.

Run these Commands:

1.

PS C:\Windows\System32> Get-HPBIOSSetting -Name "Absolute Persistence Module Current State"

2.

PS C:\Windows\System32> Set-HPBIOSSettingValue -Name "Permanent Disable Absolute Persistence Module Set Once" -Value "Yes"

If these commands  work without error you restart your pc and go to the bios,

You should not see the following under security tab.

"Absolute Persistence Module Permanent Disable: Yes"

To be safe i recommended reinstalling windows after you Disabled the Persistence Module.

@HP - I paid for support, and they have given me a complete runaround on how to remove LoJack PERMANENTLY from my system. They assured me that I have come to the right place for removal, and removal has NOT happened.

After 3 reinstallations, and being sent to Absolute's support, I still have this software on my system.

This is negatively impacting my business, and my infrastructure security. I need someone that is going to help remove this UNWANTED software from my system forever.

Please provide me with the path. No more games. I am absolutely appalled that this task isn't complete. Someone please contact me to help get this completed. By the end of our support inquiry, the following will must accomplished:

1. I have a firmware/EUFI configuration that has NO trace of Absolute/Computrace LoJack software, or ANY OTHER call-home spyware on my end point.
2. When I format my system to reinstall an operating system, LoJack/Computrace's software does not pre-exist, and CANNOT return to my system.

I don't want to hear about how it's not spyware, and that "Just because it exists on your system doesn't mean that it's in use" excuses. Those are both lies, and I am quite literally watching the software collect information about my endpoint and send it back to Absolute IP ranges.

Someone please contact me to get the job done properly.
