Disabling action keys/FN keys

HP Recommended
HP Pavilion All in One 27-r014
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Brand new desktop. I need to be able to use the F1-F12 keys without having to press the FN key as well. How can I do this? I have tried the method of going into BIOS; however, there is no "System Configuration" menu on my computer. Anyone have any suggestions? Both my husband and I have spent hours on this problem. I don't want to have to return this computer. Thank you.

Hi,

I am not sure what you want to do. The title says "Disabling action keys/FN keys" yet you want to use the FN keys.

Read page 18-19 in this document.

So basically, I use the F1-12 keys for my work. Currently, it appears that those keys react as Action Keys since they share the same keys with the F1-12 keys. I am aware that pressing & holding the 'fn' button & then tapping on of those keys will make them react as standard F1-12 keys. However, what I would like to know is:

Is there a way I can enable some type of computer setting to where I do not have to press & hold the 'fn' key to use the standard F1-12 keys for this model computer? Where would such a setting(s) be?

Hi,

Did you try using the "touch" screen controls?

Sure. Are you referring to anywhere in particular? I checked everywhere. Lower right corner of my desktop has Bluetooth & some HP Display Control but nothing to enable/disable such a setting. Also that is where the touch keyboard is, but no such setting options there either.

Hi, I'm having similar issues. I have a work from home remote job, where I need to be able to use the F keys F1-12, as well as FN or Shift+ F1-12 keys to go from F13-F24.

I have action keys like screen brightness, volume, etc, that get in the way when I am trying to access in an AS400 system, different F keys that are higher than F12.

Is there a way for me to not use the action keys, and just use them solely as a F1-12, plus F13-F24 keys?

Please let me know... I need to get this figured out very soon...

Thanks.

~Caroline

Hi FYI I was able to fix this! I went into BIOS by restarting computer, pressing F10 over and over until it got into the BIOS section... Then went to system requirements, and went to Function Keys, and Disabled them. Saved pressing F10.

Now I can access F1-F12 normally, but if I need to do F13-F24, I need to press SHIFT+F key (don't press FN+Fkey unless you want to activate the active keys for screen brightness, volume, etc).

Yay!
