I did a  firmware update from the HP website and now I can't get it to boot.  I checked with Best Buy and they want 160 dollars to fix it.

Hi @TV55,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To help me understand the situation better, could you please share a bit more information?

 Please let me know:

1. When you press the power button, do you see any lights, fan movement, or HP logo on the screen?
2. Do you hear any beeps or notice any blinking LED patterns?
3. Did the update appear to complete normally, or did the system freeze/restart unexpectedly during the process?
4. Are you using the original power cable and outlet?

In the meantime, please try these safe troubleshooting steps:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Power Reset (Hard Reset)
    • Turn off the PC completely.
    • Disconnect the power cable.
    • Hold the power button for 10–15 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cable and try turning it on again.
  2. Check for Display Issues
    • Make sure the monitor is powered on and securely connected.
    • Try a different HDMI/DisplayPort cable if available.
  3. Try HP BIOS Recovery (only if the system responds to the keyboard)
    • With the PC off, press and hold Windows + B, then press the power button.
    • Continue holding Windows + B for 10 seconds to attempt BIOS auto-recovery.
(If the system is capable of entering recovery mode, the screen will show a BIOS recovery message.)
  4. Disconnect External Devices
    • Remove USB drives, printers, external storage, and anything that’s not required to boot.
    • Then try powering the system on again.
  5. Listen for Fan or LED Behaviour
    • If the fan does not spin at all or LEDs blink in a pattern, that information helps determine the next steps.

I hope this helps.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster!
