Hi

I note with disappointment that there is no way of switching the F keys on rather than the shortcut keys on my new pc.  I have seen various work arounds which DO NOT give you the F7 and F8 keys.  I think this is a poor show HP (as the problem has been going on for years and I have only just bought this pc).

Please, please can you provide me with a fix, or if you can't do so.  I think P should buy me a new keyboard that is fit for purpose!

In anticipation I await a response.

PS  There is no setting I can change in BIOS, FN and Caps button, Fn and esc button and all other such options do not work.

@BobTed53 , welcome to the Community.

You don't mention the model of the keyboard, but I believe that it must be Multi-media.  The engineers have decided that the F keys on the MM keyboards should default to MM functions, not the F1-F12.  The best option that I can offer is a possible third-party app.  I definitely hear what you are saying and so do many others.

Hi

Many thanks for the reply,  Any suggestions are warmly accepted.  I have an IC 4491A-KB205 if that is he correct number from the back.  I have seen sticking tape over the Fn key which is a strong contender at the moment.

I am interested in the third party app.  Which do you recommend?  Does this offer the F7 and F8 keys as an option to be as standard?

Thank you for your time and assistance.  I appreciate your efforts.

You are very welcome, @BobTed53!

Now that I got you excited about a third-party app for this purpose, I can't find any online.  I can't even find any other methods to try.

Thank you anyway.  Perhaps there are others out there that that have managed to find a fix, otherwise, perhaps HP themselves will be in touch and send me a working keyboard! fingers crossed but not holding my breathe).

I am even happy to send this current keyboard back as it is little use for me and will avoid any frustration of looking at the same and wondering why there is no FN lock key!

Take care all and stay safe.
