After upgrading to windows 11 my fingerprint scanner hasn't been recognized by the new system. I'm not sure how to fix this, maybe I need to reinstall drivers?

Hi @Grant_Ben,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your fingerprint scanner stopped working after upgrading to Windows 11, it's possible that the drivers are either outdated or incompatible with the new operating system. To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps.

Update Drivers:

  • Visit the official HP support website for your laptop model.
  • Look for the latest fingerprint scanner drivers compatible with Windows 11.
  • Download and install the updated drivers.

Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X and select "Device Manager."
  • Locate the fingerprint scanner under the "Biometric devices" or "Security devices" category.
  • Right-click on the fingerprint scanner and choose "Update driver."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.

Rollback Driver:

  • If updating doesn't work, you can try rolling back the driver to the previous version.
  • In Device Manager, right-click on the fingerprint scanner, choose "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and click "Roll Back Driver" if available.

Uninstall and Reinstall:

  • Uninstall the current driver by right-clicking on the fingerprint scanner in Device Manager and selecting "Uninstall device."
  • After uninstalling, restart your computer.
  • Windows should automatically reinstall the necessary drivers upon restart.

HP Support Assistant:

  • HP often provides a utility called HP Support Assistant that can help you keep your drivers up to date. Run it to check for driver updates.

Windows Update:

  • Ensure that Windows 11 is fully updated. Sometimes, Windows Update can provide the necessary driver updates.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop on the HP support website. Updating the BIOS/UEFI can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

Remember to create a system restore point before making significant changes to your system, just in case something goes wrong during the process. This allows you to revert your system to a previous state if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
