Hello,

- Is it normal that after removing the HPPrintScanDoctor folder from the "C:\Program Files\HPPrintScanDoctor" folder, the newly deleted folder reappears after opening the HP Smart app?

- An old problem: why can't I print any file from a PC with a single cartridge, but I can print the same file with my smartphone?

Thank you.

Hi @alpha454,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It is possible for the HPPrintScanDoctor folder to reappear if the HP Smart app is designed to check for and recreate necessary components at startup. This is generally part of the app's functionality to ensure that troubleshooting and diagnostic tools are available if needed. To prevent this folder from reappearing, you would need to prevent the HP Smart app from automatically restoring it, which may not be recommended as it could impact the app's ability to troubleshoot effectively.

Single Cartridge Printing on PC vs. Smartphone

If you are experiencing issues printing from your PC but can print from your smartphone, the problem may be related to the printer settings or drivers on your PC.

  1. Printer Mode Settings:
    • Some HP printers have a “single cartridge mode” that allows limited functionality if one cartridge is missing. Ensure your printer is set to allow this in the settings.

  2. Driver and Software Updates:
    • Check that the printer drivers and HP software on your PC are up to date. You can find updates through the Official HP® Support or the HP Smart app on your PC.

  3. HP Smart App Configuration:
    • Ensure that the HP Smart app on your PC is set to allow printing with one cartridge. The settings might differ from mobile apps and could restrict printing when a cartridge is missing.

  4. Device-Specific Issues:
    • There might be device settings or permissions differences between the smartphone and PC affecting print capabilities. Verify any permissions or settings on the PC specific to printing requirements.

  5. Reinstall Printer on PC:
    • Try removing the printer from your PC and then adding it again to refresh the connection and any related settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks for your reply.

I noticed that when I use HP Smart on my PC, under Settings > Printer Reports > Print Diagnostic Information, and under Advanced Settings > Tools > Print Self-Test Page, the pages print normally. However, if I try to print a PDF or Word page from my PC, it doesn't print.

You are welcome @alpha454

Thank you for clarifying the situation. Let’s address both points step by step:

Printing from PC vs. Smartphone with a single cartridge

Since you can print diagnostic pages from the HP App but not PDF/Word files, the issue is specific to how Windows handles print jobs. Here are the steps to resolve it:

Check Printer Status in Windows

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right‑click your printer and select Printer Properties.
  3. Confirm that the printer is set as Default Printer.

Verify Single Cartridge Mode

  1. On the printer’s control panel, check if it is operating in Single Cartridge Mode.
  2. If not, reseat the cartridge and restart the printer.

Update or Reinstall Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Printers, right‑click your printer, and select Update Driver.
  3. If issues persist, remove the printer from Devices and Printers and add it again using the HP App.

Test with Different Applications
Try printing from Notepad or WordPad. If these print correctly, the issue may be with the PDF/Word application settings.

Clear Print Queue

  1. Open Services (type services.msc in Run).
  2. Locate Print Spooler, stop it, then clear files in C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS.
  3. Restart the Print Spooler service.

These steps should align the PC’s printing behavior with what you already see working from your smartphone.
