Get model name from serial number

Hello,

I have a question. I'd like to programming a soft in excel or Access ables to recover the model name of the product from the serial number.

Let me explain:

I'm an IT Tech in a french enterprise and we order a lot of HP computers. When the delivery driver brings us the order, my colleagues and me scan the label on the packaging of each computer with a device which generate the list of the serial numbers.

For the stock management, i would like to create a soft with Access or Excel.

I thought to use an API from HP, but it turns out that this does not exist ...

Can you help me, or can you tell me which technology is likely to match my needs?
