Good day.

My unit is 23-q114d (Touch). I have a GPU (AMD Radeon (TM) R7 M360), however, whenever I use this GPU on any games, it always spikes to 100% and crashes the game, and I have this theory that NEW BIOS causes this, because before BIOS update of this computer, the GPU runs smoothly and can run many apps at the same time, however, nowadays, i can only run a few apps.

The BIOS I've mentioned was updated in the year of 2019 (AMI A0.18 5/23/2019). Hence, some of my driver like my GPU is not functioning properly. Yes, I tried using the GPU, however, after a seconds or a minute, it freezes and crashes.

And I feel like, reverting to previous or updated it to latest BIOS (because it's been somewhat 4 years and half month) will resolve my issue. However, upon searching for many weeks, I cannot find my list of BIOS update (btw, just to add, i didn't update the bios of this, one of my family did update the bios of it and she cannot remember how did she do it). Hoping for any HP assistants or employee that has expertise with my unit help me. Thank u very much.

1. How to see the list of my BIOS (Either i want to update to latest one or revert it, however, you can guys give me tips whether is it safe to revert it)

2. In Computer services, "GraphicsPerfSvc" is always in "stopped" status, whenever i start it, it always revert to stopped, any solution? tried to search in google, no answer.

3. Am i eligible to update my computer to Windows 11? or just stay with Windows 10

4. EXTRA: If you guys have any recommendation to improve my computer's performance

UNIT: HP Pavilion 23-q114d (Touch)

MOTHERBOARD: HP 2B45 0100

BIOS Version/Date: AMI A0.18, 5/23/2019

All of the question I listed, i tried searching everything in internet, however, it doesn't give me any correct answer, thus, i decided to direct here in HP support instead, since my unit is from HP, hoping that you guys can help me out. Because i need to keep up with the new contents, but my computer doesn't allow me. Thank you very much!

Hi @Myoneix

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems you're experiencing several issues with your HP Pavilion 23-q114d, including GPU-related performance problems, BIOS concerns, and issues with system services. I’ll address each of your questions in detail and provide possible solutions.

1. How to See Your BIOS Version and Update It

To check the current BIOS version and update it (if necessary), follow these steps:

Check Your Current BIOS Version

To see your BIOS version on your HP Pavilion 23-q114d:

  1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type msinfo32 and press Enter to open the System Information window.
  3. Look for the BIOS Version/Date in the list on the right-hand side. This will display your current BIOS version (e.g., AMI A0.18, 5/23/2019).
  4. You can also check the version during startup by pressing the Esc key (or the required key for your model) to enter the boot menu, then select F10 to enter the BIOS setup. Your BIOS version will be listed in the main screen.

Update or Revert BIOS

To update the BIOS to the latest version, go to HP’s Support Page for Your Product and search for your model number (HP Pavilion 23-q114d).

  • In the search results, find your product and navigate to Software and Drivers.
  • Under the BIOS section, you can check for newer versions of the BIOS.
  • Important: Be very cautious when updating the BIOS. Follow the instructions carefully and make sure your computer is connected to a stable power source. An interrupted BIOS update can result in serious issues like a bricked system.

To revert to an older BIOS: Typically, reverting to a previous version is not recommended unless there's a known issue with the current version. HP doesn’t always provide an official method to roll back the BIOS. You may need to contact HP Support directly to inquire about any rollback options, as the process can be risky. Sometimes, users can manually download older BIOS versions, but this requires caution.

2. GraphicsPerfSvc Always in "Stopped" Status

The GraphicsPerfSvc service is associated with GPU performance and optimization. If it remains in a "stopped" state, it may be preventing certain GPU features from functioning properly.

Possible Solutions:

Check the Service Settings:

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down to GraphicsPerfSvc.
  3. Right-click on it and select Properties.
  4. Change the Startup type to Automatic.
  5. If the service is still not starting, check if there’s a dependency (other services that must be running) and make sure those are also enabled.

Reinstall GPU Drivers: Sometimes, issues with the GPU performance services can be related to outdated or corrupted drivers. Try reinstalling the AMD Radeon drivers:

  1. Go to the AMD website and download the latest drivers for your AMD Radeon R7 M360 GPU.
  2. Uninstall the existing drivers through Device Manager.
  3. Reboot your system and install the latest drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Good day again.

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. However, upon seeing the given solution, all of it actually I already tried it:

GraphicsPerfSvc - tried everyday to set into running status, but still reverting to stopped. Whilst, the "dependencies" as you've mentioned, there is no dependencies listed on it.

Reinstall GPU Driver - I've been doing this for years, but still cannot guarantee fix, actually I just found out in AMD's website, that they're no longer support or somewhat update the graphics card in my computer, (Take note, that the GPU (AMD Radeon R7 M360) is embedded with the motherboard "Permanently soldered to the motherboard and is not in card form factor" [for your reference: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c05053493). As for AMD's website I've mentioned [for your reference: https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/faqs/GPU-630.html], listed here is the following graphics card that they're no plan to support, including mine.

But I have this theory that my GPU is not functioning properly, due to outdated BIOS perhaps, I don't know, just a hunch, since it's been 4 years and a half month, I think there should be a new BIOS update on this one. However, upon searching and searching, I'm still ending it up to this blank "There is no software or drivers available for your product," [for your reference: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/drivers/hp-pavilion-23-all-in-one-desktop-pc-series/model/8877082] there should be atleast information or driver provided there, but no. I feel like this desktop already left behind and doesn't support anymore, like the GPU AMD Graphics, but how about me or other people perhaps still using this desktop for their work?

But still I appreciated your response, but I already tried all of it many times already. I'm hoping that my inquiry can still be resolve, because I don't want to waste this computer, this unit still have lot of potential.

I'm hoping that you can forward my concern to other that is expert to my unit (I'm not hating your response, it's just, for me not enough to resolve my inquiry) and hoping that you or they can still provide UPDATED list of "Software and Drivers" for this unit. Because what's the point of directing the users to their desire unit, if there's no available Software and Drivers for their unit right? I also tried using the HP Support Assistant, but still can't resolve the problem, majority of the recommendation is "update the bla bla" well, i still updated it, since it is require, but didn't fix my problem.

Hoping for your response again and from others if have. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Myo

Hi @Myoneix,

Thank you for your response. Since you mentioned that the GraphicsPerfSvc service isn't starting, it's possible that it’s related to the lack of driver support or conflicts with other system services. I understand you tried starting the service manually, but it keeps reverting to stopped.

  • Check Event Viewer for Errors: You can check if the Event Viewer shows any errors related to this service or the GPU. It may point to specific issues that could help troubleshoot further.
    • Open Event Viewer (search in Start Menu).
    • Go to Windows Logs > System, and check for warnings or errors related to the GraphicsPerfSvc or your AMD GPU.
  • Check for Corrupted System Files: Sometimes, a corrupted system file can prevent certain services from starting.
    • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
    • Run the following commands:
      • sfc /scannow (to check for corrupted system files).
      • chkdsk /f (to check for disk errors).

 System Performance Considerations

Since you mentioned that your system still has potential and you want to use it for work, it might be helpful to consider optimizing the system’s performance:

a. Upgrade RAM (If Possible):

If your desktop allows for RAM upgrades, adding more memory can help improve overall system performance. Check if your system has an extra slot for more RAM and whether it supports a higher capacity.

b. Consider External GPU (eGPU):

If the AMD R7 M360 is severely limiting performance and you need more graphics power, you could explore the option of using an external GPU (eGPU). This involves connecting a dedicated external graphics card via the laptop’s Thunderbolt or USB-C port (if available).

c. Clean Install of Windows:

Sometimes, a clean install of Windows can help resolve lingering issues caused by outdated drivers, conflicts, or system corruption. It would give your system a fresh start and may resolve some underlying problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello, Good Day.

I also tried everything you've mentioned, still didn't fix my unit. Maybe for the last time, I'm humbly requesting to the software engineers to provide software or drivers available for my unit, this will be my final option [for your reference: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/drivers/hp-pavilion-23-all-in-one-desktop-pc-series/model/8877082], hoping that somehow it will fix my problem. I also checked other hp units and I see majority of them have available software / drivers to download, meanwhile, mine doesn't have.

If it's okay to request, I'm still looking for my motherboard online, to see the BIOS update of it, because I feel like, as I've mentioned before, my GPU is embedded with the motherboard, hence, maybe the motherboard or BIOS is somewhat outdated, and my GPU is not functioning properly. I also checked online that to see the BIOS update, you should look for your motherboard, however, I can't seem find my motherboard unit. [for your reference: https://support.hp.com/sg-en/document/c05031561].  because every time I click the "Crane-2G motherboard specifications" in the linked given, always on error, maybe page got deleted?

Anyway, hoping for your kind assistant and I hope my request to provide software & drivers for my unit will be provided. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Myo
