I was having issues trying to play COD because of the TPM issue. I downloaded the update that was listed :

+   HP Consumer Notebook PC BIOS Update (88FF,8900,8901,8902,8912)

Now when I start the laptop, it gives me two options: clear and reset TPM or continue to boot. I am not super tech savvy and not sure which option. When I choose the continue to boot and check to see if TPM is enabled it says it can not find a TPM. So not sure what to do. I thought this update would have just been a download and go.

Resetting the TPM should not cause a problem if the system drive is not encrypted.

You can now, after the BIOS update, sign into and use Windows when you bypass resetting the TPM.

Is the preceding statement correct?

Then it looks like you can reset the TPM since Windows now states it can't find a TPM.

But it's your call.

Edit: Resetting the TPM will not lock the BIOS. But Windows might be inaccessible if the system drive is encrypted. Windows would need a BitLocker recovery key if the system drive is encrypted.

Greetings @Scorpiowitch83

Welcome to the HP Forum.

You should be able to clear and reset TPM if you are not using Device Encryption (BitLocker Lite) to encrypt your system disk or other drives.

Check Control Panel>Device Encryption to verify BitLocker encryption is set to off.

The TPM is useful but has some downsides

I don't use BitLocker. And I have been doing trouble free BIOS updates on retail (non-HP) MBs for years.

I can't guarantee resetting TPM will be trouble free since I am not familiar with your PC's configuration.

Hopefully resetting the TPM goes well and the BIOS update fixes your PC's TPM/gaming problem.

Well I went ahead after looking to see if I had a bitlocker key and not finding one. It worked. Thank you! I was just concerned I would mess up the computer.

Sounds good.

And I did not want to break Windows.

BTW, clearing the TPM when using BitLocker would, most likely, break the recovery key.

You would have to reinstall Windows and will lose all data stored on the encrypted drive.
