Hi @NeilC1970,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel how irritating it is when this HP Display Control popup keeps nudging you every single day, even after you’ve already updated it. It breaks your focus, interrupts your rhythm, and makes the whole system feel… restless. Here’s the clearest, approved path to stop the pop-up permanently.

Step 1: Uninstall HP Display Control Completely

This clears the broken service that keeps calling for updates.

  1. Open Control Panel → Programs & Features
  2. Find HP Display Control
  3. Click Uninstall
  4. Restart your PC

This alone fixes the issue for many customers.

Step 2: Install the newer version (NOT the version the pop-up offers)

HP community experts discovered that the version included in the pop-up (e.g., 4.8.67.0) fails repeatedly.

HP Support members recommend installing a newer, stable build, such as
4.9.25.0 Rev.A from HP’s FTP site:

This upgraded version stops the repeated update loop.

Step 3: Clear Cached Installer Files

Sometimes the updater keeps re-triggering because of leftover temp files.

  1. Press Win + R → type temp → delete everything
  2. Repeat with:
    • %temp%
    • prefetch

Restart your PC afterwards.

Step 4: Disable Automatic HP Software Updates (optional but helpful)

If you use HP Support Assistant:

  1. Open HP Support Assistant
  2. Go to Settings → Software Updates
  3. Turn off automatic updates for HP Display Control

This prevents future popups even if HP pushes another update later.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
