Hi there,

The issue you’re describing is fairly common and usually easy to diagnose. A loud fan right after startup generally indicates that the system is working harder to regulate temperature or that the fan control is not receiving proper readings. Here are a few steps you can try:

1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI):
Restart the PC and press F2 repeatedly to access the built-in diagnostics. Run the “System Tests” and especially the “Thermal” test. This will tell you if the fan or temperature sensor is failing.

2. Reset BIOS Settings to Default:
Sometimes incorrect values can cause the fan to ramp up. Restart the PC → open BIOS with F10 → choose “Restore Defaults.” Save and exit.

3. Check for BIOS Updates (from HP Support Assistant):
A missing or outdated BIOS version can cause unstable fan control. Open HP Support Assistant and see if there are any updates available for BIOS or system firmware.

4. Review Background Processes Again:
Even if CPU usage looks normal, check if Windows is indexing files or performing updates in the background. This can temporarily increase fan speed.

5. If the PC is older:
Fans naturally wear out over time and may start making noise even if they still work. If diagnostics show a fan issue or noise continues, it may be time for a replacement.
