- HP Omen 45L: Gaming Hub Performance mode slows down PC

Hello,
I have a weird problem in my brand new Omen 45L (Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 3080) as turning Performance Mode on in Gaming Hub actually slows down the PC. At first, everything was working fine but after installing some Windows updates (Windows 11), the problem started to occur I believe. Balanced mode works perfectly fine.
So, when I set Performance Mode on I can see that the processor wattage goes up a bit. Then, if I switch tabs in Gaming Hub, suddenly the computer slows down. When I look at the system details, the processor loses power and the processor temperature falls tremendously. Selecting Balanced mode again makes the computer run normally.
Does anyone have any idea about what's going on? Things I've tried:
- Reinstalling Windows
- Reinstalling Gaming Hub
- Installing updates via HP Support Assistant

I'm sure you already thought of it, but I have to ask: do you have the latest HP Omen 45L BIOS update?
Is the Game Mode turned on? -For AMD Radeon GPUs it would be the opposite, but that doesn't apply to you.
Type Game Mode in the Windows search bar and click on "Game Mode settings".
If Game Mode is Off, click to turn it On.
Thinking out loud: your gaming rig's PSU is more than sufficient (800 watt) to power your GPU and to allow Performance Mode to run smoothly. OMEN 45L Gaming Desktop GT22-0450t (3K1G6AV_1) (hp.com)
Since this is a brand-new gaming rig, under warranty, perhaps you should contact HP's tech support and see what they suggest you should/can do.

Hey,
it seems that BIOS is up to date (AMI F.08, 6.12.2021). At least it wouldn't let me try to install F.12 or F.07 from HP website, as it says they're older versions.
Game mode doesn't have any effect.
I was in touch with HP support, but their solution was to hand the computer over for 7-9 days for maintenance, which is not realistic as I need the computer daily.
Anyway, here's a few screenshots of what's happening when I turn on Performance mode and then switch tabs in Gaming Hub.
Ryzen Master and Balanced mode ON in Gaming Hub.
Performance mode ON in Gaming Hub.
Switching tabs in Gaming Hub results in this and computer slowing down tremendously.

Hi,
I am having the exact same issues.
I am actually on my second 45L, my first one started doing this and the RGB lighting would start flashing like crazy, so I exchanged it because of this.
My second 45L has just started doing the same again!!
Have you found a fix?

Nope, no fix. I've basically tried everything you can think of.
The Performance Mode does work, but only if you don't touch Gaming Hub at all after turning it on. However, it also makes the computer run a bit hotter but doesn't seem to improve benchmarks that much, so I'm just using the Balanced Mode or tweaking with Ryzen Master.

I have a new 45L with this same issue. Halo Infinite is basically unplayable with Performance Mode on.
Initially I thought it was Gaming Hub as a whole that was the problem as uninstalling that fixed the issue, but now I've tried with Balanced Mode on and all is okay, so Performance Mode seems to be the issue here.

Hi all,
I also have same issue with my new Omen 45 (Ryzen 9 5900X, 3080 TI). I thought I was losing my marbles - the computer just seems to really slow down as soon as I select performance mode.
The computer arrived about 2 weeks ago, directly from HP. there was a Bios update which I did. Ive run all updates etc , drivers etc.
I hope it's simply software issue and can be fixed.

Hi William,
Do we have to raise it to HP in some way do you think?
I am sceptical of them properly monitoring this forum, and it would be good for this to be fixed (I was very confused by it, so really would like others to not have to go through that).
Thanks,
Adam
