Microsoft Windows 11

I ran HP Hardware Diagnostics 3.2.0.0 this evening and from inside, invoked Image Assistant. After launch, the Image assistant 5.3.6 infomed me that a new version 5.3.7 was available. So I exit HPHWD and downloadet the 5.3.7 and installed it. When restaring HD and then again lauched IA which was still 5.3.6 it informed me that the new 5.3.7 was available.

Rebooting does not take effect. The behavior above repeats regardless of how much I try to make the HD 3.2.0 understand that it is supposed to use 5.3.7.

Is this a known defect worth mentioning or would it be best to uninstall and then reinstall both utilities?

Hi @Ulf_K

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. It appears that HP PC Hardware Diagnostics is continuing to launch the bundled Image Assistant version (5.3.6) even after Image Assistant 5.3.7 has been installed separately.

Based on the behavior described, we recommend the following:

  1. Confirm that HP Image Assistant 5.3.7 launches correctly when opened directly from the Start menu or its installation folder.
  2. Check whether HP PC Hardware Diagnostics is launching its own packaged copy of HP Image Assistant rather than the newly installed version.
  3. Uninstall both HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and HP Image Assistant.
  4. Restart the PC.
  5. Download and install the latest HP Image Assistant first.
  6. Download and install the latest HP PC Hardware Diagnostics afterward.
  7. Test launching Image Assistant from within Hardware Diagnostics again and verify whether it now opens version 5.3.7.

If HP Image Assistant opens as version 5.3.7 when launched directly, but HP PC Hardware Diagnostics still opens 5.3.6, that suggests Hardware Diagnostics may be referencing its embedded Image Assistant components rather than the standalone installation.

Please let us know:

  • The exact HP PC Hardware Diagnostics edition (Windows or UEFI).
  • Whether HP Image Assistant 5.3.7 launches correctly when started independently.
  • Whether this is occurring on a commercial HP platform such as EliteBook, ProBook, or ZBook.

This information will help us provide the most relevant next steps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
