HP Pavilion p7-1459 Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So, the official driver for my pc (HP Pavilion p7-1459) is not available for my current OS (windows 10). I hope to use the compact flash port to get photos from my camera (though, it would be nice to be able to use all the ports). Any software recomendations for the driver?

Hi @Spladam,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

The HP Pavilion p7-1459, which originally came with support for older versions of Windows, lacks official drivers for Windows 10. However, you can take the following steps to enable your CompactFlash port and other hardware components:

1. Use Windows Update

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Windows 10 often includes generic drivers for older hardware.

2. Install Legacy Drivers in Compatibility Mode

  • Download the last known drivers for Windows 7 or 8 from HP's official support page.
  • Right-click the downloaded installer, select Properties, and navigate to the Compatibility tab.
  • Enable Run this program in compatibility mode for and choose Windows 7 or Windows 8.
  • Proceed with the installation.

3. Use Device Manager to Search for Drivers

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Locate the CompactFlash port under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other devices.
  • Right-click the device, select Update Driver, and choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

4. Manually Install Drivers

If automatic updates fail:

  • Identify the hardware's device ID:
    • In Device Manager, right-click the hardware, go to Properties > Details tab, and select Hardware Ids.
  • Use websites like PCI Database to find compatible drivers.

5. Consider External Card Readers

If the CompactFlash port remains unsupported, an external USB CompactFlash card reader might be a practical alternative. These are plug-and-play and compatible with Windows 10.

Let me know how it goes, and I can guide you further if needed!

Thank you for the support! Unfortunately, none of these solutions worked out. Though, I did discover that a PCI Simple Communications Controller had an error, it looks like it requires a driver. Maybe this is connected to the problem I'm having? When I click Update Driver...>Search automatically for drivers, windows couldn't find any drivers. I then clicked Search for updated drivers on Windows Update>View optional updates, there are five drivers that have "PCI" in the name:

Realtek - LAN - Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

Intel -  Other hardware - Intel(R) 6 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 2 - 1C12

Intel -  Other hardware - Intel(R) 6 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 1C10

Intel -  Other hardware - Xeon(R) processor E3 - 1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor PCI Express Root Port - 0151

Intel -  Other hardware - Intel(R) 6 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 6 -1C1A

but I am unsure weather they will work or not. Could my problem be linked to this issue? What should I do? (sorry if this reply is a bit unorganised)
