HP Performance Tune-Up Check Optimization Freezes when selecting System File Checker

Whenever I go to run the optimizer in the HP Performance Tune-Up Checker with the System File Checker selected, it freezes during the process. Is there a fix to this? Have to shut down PC every time to stop the process.

Hi @OGrJR,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing freezes during the optimization process can be frustrating, especially when it's happening consistently with a specific tool like the System File Checker. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix this issue.

  • Update HP Performance Tune-Up: Ensure that your HP Performance Tune-Up software is up-to-date. Sometimes, software bugs or compatibility issues are addressed in newer versions.
  • Check for System Updates: Make sure your operating system is fully updated. Sometimes, system updates can resolve compatibility issues with third-party software like HP Performance Tune-Up.
  • Run System File Checker (SFC) Manually: If HP Performance Tune-Up freezes when using the System File Checker, try running SFC manually from the command prompt. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type: sfc /scannow. This will initiate a scan of your system files and repair any corrupted files it finds.
  • Check for Malware: Sometimes, malware or viruses can interfere with system processes, including optimization tools. Run a full scan of your system using reliable antivirus software to ensure your system is clean.
  • Check Event Viewer for Errors: Look for any error messages or logs in the Windows Event Viewer related to HP Performance Tune-Up or System File Checker. This might provide more insight into what's causing the freeze.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot the freezing issue with HP Performance Tune-Up when using the System File Checker.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
