Hi, Have a prodesk i5 8th Gen with 8Gb ram running windows 11 and everytime I try to download photos from my android phone, the file manager crashes and returns to desktop. It does this without fail everytime I try to cut and paste more than one photgraph from a redmi note 10pro. The phone is fine as I can plug it into my old toshiba laptop (win10) and drage a drop 30-50 photos without difficulty - this is really getting annoying! Help please.

I suspect Windows 11 is acting differently than expected.
Try looking at this

Scroll down to the "How to Connect a Phone to Windows 11 with Phone Link"

Thanks for the repsonse. It appears that this is a way of transferring single photos or videos from my android phone to the computer but it doesn't have bulk move. What I find irritating is that my ten year old windows 10 laptop can just drag and drop from the phone memory no problem yet the same phone, with the same lead, can't do that with windows 11. There must be something fundamentally wrong here as it works ok with a memory stick (as long as it is connected directly to to the computer not via any extension). I can't help feeling there is a setting or step I am missing unless windows 11 really is this limited??

From that link in my post above, it seems to indicate the the "Phone link" app for Windows 11 will accomplish what you expect, without the flash drive. Did you read thru that article on the link?

Hi, Yes I did read the article and it specifically states "Currently, there isn’t an option to select multiple photos or videos, so you must repeat the steps for other images you want to move from your phone to your computer". Both my phone and a usb stick do exactly the same thing which makes me suspect there is something wrong with the USB driver or similar. My windows 10 laptop (that I just plug the phone into) allows me to drag and drop as many photos or videos as I like in one go. I find it perplexing that Windows would create a system that doesn't support drag and drop. The program you suggest implies that it also, doesn't allow multiple photos in one go.

Sorry but it seems I did not research that properly because the quote you posted does appear in the article.
In this posting to Microsoft, this poster gave a guide to help facilitate the transfer. Found here: posted by teateateatea and following in that thread. Hope this helps
It is possible, contrary to popular belief. (Tested on Samsung S21Ultra with Gallery App). It does NOT work on the Google Photos App
1. On the Phone Link App on your PC and open up the gallery app. It may prompt you to enable screen sharing on your phone. Accept that prompt.
2. Hold left click on the photos until the select photos appear
3. Drag select the items you wish,
3a. For best results, Left click and drag left then down in a fast motion. Only do this per page
3b. Alternatively, single left click to select individual photos
3c. Max number of photos seems to be 99
4. Once you're happy with your selection, Left Click and hold one of the selected photos until the photo sort of appears out with a small number on the top left, showing total number of photos.
4a. Ensure that the popped out photo is clear and not translucent
5. Drag it over to your PC, preferably into an empty folder. A copy icon will appear.
5a. You may need to wiggle your mouse a little until the copy icon appears
6. Let go and watch your photos transfer.
7. Repeat this for your next 99 photos.
Caveat: In the situation your PC freezes up, or something looks like it goes wrong, close the Gallery App on your PC and start again.
It's a little buggy, but it does work.
