Doing a backup to my HP Simple Save Drive and has stalled at 87% for over 12 hours

That is sad - and unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.

The physical drives AND the Simple Save software have not been supported for a lot of years.

Once the drive or the software fails, locks up, dies, or otherwise destroys itself, there is no recourse except to abandon it.

What else?

Well, you could try unplugging the drive - wait a while - reconnect and see if there is any difference.

Hopefully you still have the data elsewhere so you can start using a non-proprietary - and not encrypted - backup method.

I actually checked the connections, and started the backup again and it finished in minutes.

That is fortunate.

What I said earlier still applies - even if the drive and / or Simple Save software have not yet failed - it will happen.

Be very sure this is not the only backup / copy of the data you are trying to protect.

Once the drive / software fails, dies, cannot magically come back, there is no back track to recover the data.

Good Luck with it.

Stay Safe.
