HP Support Assistant stopped working i.e. the HPSA icon in the tray showed a yellow indicator but when I clicked on it, the opening window came up but nothing happened. An error message popped up saying "Explorer.exe - Application failed to start in the required time" and then the HPSA window closed down. I de-installed HPSA, downloaded the new version 9.28, installed it, but got the same non-start result. After installing the new version, the desktop icon showed up but the tray icon did not. My system is fully up to date with Windows 10 updates. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Here's a video from HP Support about installing and updating HP Support Assistant in Win11:

This should also work in Win10.

Thanks for the suggestion WAWood. I essentially tried this i.e. downloading the new version of HPSA and installing it twice. Strangely, HPSA did start up once after the second deinstall/reinstall. The menu came up after a LONG time watching the spinning circle. I got to the point of trying reading the notifications but could not open any of them and then the system froze. BTW: the HPSA quick start icon started showing up in the tray after this and continues to show a yellow indicator.
Since then, when I try to run it, I get the same result - the initial HOSA screen pops up but nothing happens and it eventually closes the window with no error message. So I never get to the point where the HPSA menu shows up. I decided to run the Task Manager to see what is going on while HPSA is trying to run. HPSA never shows up as a running task (since it never really starts running). But activity on the C: drive jumps to 100% and falls to zero when the HPSA startup fails. The C: drive running at 100% appears to be the reason for system freezing mentioned above.
