I periodically receive System Notices in lower right corner of Registry errors and requests me to purchase and install HP Version of IOLO System Mechanic. I really don't think it is from HP but it is all graphics of HP Official documents.  Is this spam or really HP?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

I'd avoid it -- a stray pop-up that wants to edit your Registry is not your friend.

Sounds like the software is installed  -- perhaps deliberately.  ?

OR

Perhaps you've been "somewhere" on the Internet that allowed the software to infiltrate your system.

What?

This sort of thing can happen if you "go somewhere" on the Internet and download an application.

The original download might also contain "passengers", that is, extra software you did not want and did not expect.

Dragon Opinion

This particular software has been around for many years -  I remember it from long ago.

I'm not a fan and would not allow it on my system.

Check in Settings > Apps > Installed Apps (for Windows 11)

Peruse the list -- if you see the software, consider uninstalling it.

What if we can't find this in our program files? How do we keep it from popping up again? I don't trust it.

@danamcc1

Honestly, I don't know.

I trust very little.

Retired IT.

I don't generally have problems of this type --

Ideas

  • Switch Windows notifications OFF.
  • Do not download "stuff" from the Internet.
  • Do not subscribe to or use any tools outside of tightly controlled software and apps from well known, vetted, legitimate companies.
  • Do not take calls from those whom you do not know.  Your phone, my rules.
  • Bock any emails you do not recognize.  I keep your spam filter up to date and toss far more than you read.
  • Use security software that you chose to sweep your systems for intruders, bugs, and the like.
  • Do not purchase any software or any service from anyone who cold calls you, "pops up" on your device, or wants to "Chat".
  • Do not let anyone you do not know into your device (computer, tablet, phone).   Not.  Just don't.
  • Do not visit foreign (out of country) websites.
  • Do not visit blogs or political websites, and either quit or tightly control your participation in any Social Media.

Am I safe?

Maybe.

There is only so much you can do --

Tighten your security as you can -- and wish to do -- and then live your online life.

Important

Never post private information in the HP Community or in ANY public place.

Thieves are waiting - do not hand out your privacy to their keeping.

Do not let anyone you do not know into your computer, your tablet, or your phone.  Not.

Do not purchase security software from people who "pop-up", chat, call you, or threaten you with dire consequences.

Do not accept cold-calls, that is, phone calls from people you do not know who want your information.

The IRS is not after you, your computer is not full of bugs, your bank is NOT calling you because someone is transferring money.

==========================================================

Important

Never post private information in the HP Community!

HP Support does not free-post phone numbers for HP Support on the Internet.

Your computer is not full of bugs and you do not need to pay a fee for driver support.

Pay attention to where you are going.

Do not wander around on the Internet looking for help –

When looking for help, start only at legitimate web sites for your product.

One dot, one letter, a single space out of place can land you on the dark side.
