Hi @Jozef32
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like you're dealing with two issues: the error with the HP USB update and the USB port causing system restarts.
Let’s tackle both step by step:
Issue 1: HP USB Update Error
Hide the Update:
- Download and run the Microsoft Hide Windows Update utility.
- Use the tool to hide the problematic HP USB update so it no longer attempts to install.
Manually Install Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
- Download and install the latest USB drivers manually.
Run Windows Troubleshooter:
- Go to Control Panel > Troubleshooting > System and Security > Fix problems with Windows Update.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve update-related issues.
Issue 2: USB Port Causing Restarts
Disable USB Selective Suspend:
- Press Windows + R, type control.exe powercfg.cpl,,3, and hit Enter.
- Expand USB Settings > USB Selective Suspend Setting.
- Set it to Disabled.
Reinstall USB Controllers:
- Open Device Manager (search for it in the Start menu).
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click each USB controller and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer to reinstall the controllers automatically.
Check for Hardware Changes:
- In Device Manager, click Action > Scan for hardware changes to detect and fix USB-related issues.
Update BIOS:
- Visit the HP Support website and check for BIOS updates for your laptop model.
- Follow the instructions to update the BIOS, as outdated firmware can cause USB issues.
