It sounds really stupid, but the tower doesn't have a disc-eject button, and I can't use file explorer because it doesn't come up for me to choose to eject. I opened it up and it does have a disc tray, but I'm lost on how to open it

This is strange. The parts list for Z2 G8 show the optional

If the file explorer does not show the ODD then verify the power and SATA cables are connected and the SATA port is enabled in BIOS for internal use and not for RAID or ESATA.
Power the system off and back on and immediately check the device manager for the optical drive. Possibly the drive is not waking up after the system goes to sleep. That can cause a drive to "disappear" from the system.
