- HPSA update check gone?

Question is about the HPSA tool itself:
Where did the HPSA update check tool go?
Now to be clear, on the last and all previous versions (since this computer was new), there have been two update tools; one for the computer and messages, and one for the HPSA app itself.
It it the HPSA version update tool that is now missing.
8.8.34.31 was the previous version, and it had the tool.
It was in the 'About' tab > "Check for latest version" button.
Now there is no such button or tool anywhere.
The messages and updates check tool under the devices menu is still there, and in fact works much better now, and FINALLY includes an exit condition message, (in the case that there were no updates found, it confirms it completed the check successfully!) [something i have been complaining about/suggesting for years now!] smile!
9.7.433.0 is my current upgrade, and it is now missing the HPSA portion of update check tool.
Is there no need for manual checking/updating now with version 9?
Has it been integrated with the device and messages check tool?
Does it automatically update itself now?
Does it not need anymore updates?
Please tell me if my earnest searching missed it.
Sincerely,
Mr K L

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.
The HP Support Assistant self update check is not available in the 9.x version set for HPSA.
Why?
In the case of the HPSA 9.x versions,
HPSA 9.x is an application.
Find it here:
Settings > Apps > Apps and Features
To see the application version, click Advanced
The application will update as needed.
Yeah, but...
(Still) Concerned that you do not have the latest version of HPSA?
Open the HP Support Assistant Website.
The current version(s) are listed on the main HPSA web page.
Download, Save, Install the latest supported HP version of the HP Support Assistant
Website / Information / Video / White Paper / Download
Partial Excerpt from the HPSA website:
HP Support Assistant is included on new HP desktop and notebook PCs. You can install it on PCs from other manufacturers for easy access to support resources and tools for HP printers and PCs. Click the ? icon on your system tray to start HP Support Assistant or download now. During setup, selected new HP PC models running Windows 10 will receive version 9. All other PC models will receive version 8.1
If you received an incompatible operating system message during HP Support Assistant installation, please download and install the Legacy version.
What else?
Yes, the UI for the application version of HPSA has been redesigned - the design is more compatible with mobile devices with the "application" environment.
No, there is no choice about the application layout - some people like it better, others perhaps not-so-much.
Feedback Option
If you wish to complain - or even compliment the HPSA team for their hard work - Open the HPSA application and click to leave Feedback.

Software and Driver Updates for your computer
NOTE: Ignore this section if you do not need / want the information.
At this writing, there are not any software / driver updates for your computer dated 2021.
Reference
Software and drivers for HP Pavilion Desktop - 510-a010 (ENERGY STAR)
Click "All Drivers" if the list does not display
Click "Open all" to expand the list
As the hardware ages, expect fewer - or no - software / driver updates for the model.
This is normal.
Because there are no updates for software and drivers, it is not necessary that you set HPSA to check for software and driver updates. The HPSA check for software updates can be shut off if you like - saves a bit of resource that would be used to go out and search for what is not there.
At this point, an occasional manual check of the Software and Drivers web page would suffice to find updates for your computer.
What else?
Check Category Bulletins and Notices for security and other important information that might impact your system.
If an update is necessary / available / relevant, the information will be provided in the particular bulletin document.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Turn off antivirus software and the firewall.
Go to the HP Customer Support website. Enter your product number to find an updated version of HP Support Assistant for your computer.
Download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant.
Restart the computer to complete the installation process.
When the system restart is complete, the HP Support Assistant
icon displays on the task bar.
Click the HP Support Assistant
icon to open the application.
If HP Support Assistant is working correctly, you are done.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

@ECHO_LAKE
First of all, your link is BROKEN. (404 page not there, Sorry)
Second, did you READ my description?
I already have the current version installed, it appears to be working normally;
What I am asking is if you removed the HPSA version update checker, that used to reside in the 'About' section, or is it somewhere else now, or does it take care of itself? (with no manual intervention to check for HPSA updates).
Since your link is broken, I just used the link in the HPSA for support. It directed me to the HP support site where it is ONLY detecting drivers for my computer, NOT the HPSA app.
There is no mention of HPSA anywhere on this site...
It wants me to install HP Orbit, from 2017 release, and HP UEFI. Should I install those? It says 'critical' (there are other optional ones too...)
I would like to point out that HPSA version 9 retired the UEFI (disabled it).
Your answer so far has been most UNHELPFUL.
OK, I DID finally find something under the HP support website, under 'Diagnostics > computer diagnostic tools; and then another step to the HPSA ad at the lower right of that page...
I have downloaded sp113820.exe
---------
OK, I did as you instructed - it is still the SAME!
I did not say it was not working right; I said that the 'about HPSA update' is no longer there (HP removed or forgot it).
It installed the same version I already have installed!
You should already be aware that HP totally redesigned the UI, and the links are all changed and in different locations or menus...
The 'about' menu no longer has a link to check for the latest version of HPSA - that is what my original post above asks!
['About' is where most software companies have a version update check located, and where HP used to have this link]
About now only displays: the current version number installed, a link to learn more about HPSA (https://www.hp.com/us-en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html), and a copyright!!
Please research and find out if there is need for checking HSA version for updates, or if it now takes care of itself (auto-updates)...
Please let me know...
[Oh, and the HPSA where the login explicitly says 'user name' it does NOT accept me by user name! it only accepts email - fix the wording! (some sites DO use your assume screen user name OR email!)]

@Dragon-Fur
THANK YOU!
No apologies needed.
Exactly what I was asking.
It still boggles my mind how official employees continually miss the mark every time!
(Isn't the remote support a fee service after the warranty expires?)
I knew reinstalling it would not change the UI buttons offered, but agents insist you do what they ask before they will look at what you really are reporting...
They don't seem to actually read what is being asked, even if it is clearly defined.
I know HPSA is an app, but weren't prior versions apps also? (I'm asking if version 9 is different type of software than all the previous updates?)
Oh, one other glitch, but I wanted to tackle one at a time (keep it simple for the support team):
During my last update, I checked the box for 'pin app icon to the taskbar (recommended)', as I wanted to maintain the convenient launch icon.
But what I got now is TWO icons!
This seems to be a bug.
Only one of the two shows info notifications, and only one is 'launchable', however, it varies as to which is the active one!
Also, they don't seem to belong to the taskbar, or the notifications area, as they don't have a right-click to remove pinning, and they don't 'shuffle' when loading or unloading other notifications or tasks... (they stay in the same place, their own defined area).
I don't know if technically they are in the 'notification' or the 'taskbar' domain. (so to speak).
I don't necessarily expect you to answer this, just want to include it here with my post about the changes I encountered with the new version 9.
Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Mr K L
Oh yea, I accidentally incremented the 'views' on my post, until I realized that each time I refresh the page, I was adding to the 'views'! (LOL I thought I had a hot topic! Each refresh had another viewer!)
I participate on other forums that do not exhibit this behavior. (some do, and some do not actively update the views count, so I refresh those occasionally to see if there is any new activity, but those do not increment the views count for a logged in member refreshing his own page IIRC.)

You are welcome.
"Flavors" or types of the HP Support Assistant
The software type is the "Original" and has been around for years under one name or another.
The intent of the software has always been the same: Software and Driver Updates and extra tools as can be added to provide a "centralized" support environment.
The application type of HPSA is a relative newcomer. The focus remains the same as the original. The internal coding in the application is different (of course) and the UI has been redesigned to be more easily supported in a mobile environment.
1 ) Software Type
HP Support Assistant Software, when installed, is located in Programs and Features
and includes
HP Support Solutions Framework (companion software to HPSA), when installed, is located in Programs and Features
OR
2) Application Type
HP Support Assistant Application, when installed, is located in Settings > Apps > Apps and Features
At this writing, the application is likely version 9.7.x . NOTE: The “latest version” will change over time.
Application type might include the HP Support Solutions Framework as a result of using “Auto-Detect” to find your computer / device at Product Home
Which type HPSA (that) you should have installed (and can install) depends on your particular hardware (computer) and your Windows Operating System.
There is no choice – the appropriate type will be selected for your system. If you try to force the selection, the update / installation will fail or you might manage to tangle the HPSA into a non-working mess.

Bug Bits
We've seen reports in the Community of this "two icon" phenomenon.
At this writing, I do not remember whether there is a way - other than reloading Windows - to remove the extra icon.
The HPSA team is no doubt aware of the inconsistency regarding the two icons.
Nonetheless, use the HPSA Feedback button and send what you are seeing.
My personal recommendation is to shut off all the notification icons, strap the HPSA to the Windows Start menu, and call HPSA from Windows Start if you ever want to use it. Poof. No icons.

BRILLIANT!
Thank you!
I am intimately familiar with Programs and Features since Win XP, but I probably have never been in the Settings > Apps & features! [My first computer was Win 3.1 !]
I notice that all my 'programs' appear in both. (and Apps & features has additional entries).
Since you have answered my inquiry, and the double icons are know issue, I will explore the issues further on my own.
Thank you again.
I am not at the computer in question until next Tuesday, at work, and will look in both places, and see if it failed to remove remnants of the 8.8.34.31... (regarding the double icons)
I will post it here if I solve it.
Have a happy and safe 4th July!,

You are welcome.
Sure. Check and Test...
If this is the case, an upgrade to the 9.x set might very well have left "bits" in Programs and Features for the older 8.x software.
What? The two types- App and Software - are not meant to be on the system at the same time.
Some clean up might well be in order.
Stay Safe.
Carry on.
