Compaq 8000 Elite SFF PC

HARD DRIVE:

Ref: - HP (Compaq) 8000 Elite SFF PC, SKU: SH466UC#ABA
3646h, Intel Q45/Q43 chipset, BIOS 786G7 v01.13
- Series 4 chipset limit; runs at SATA II (3.0 GB/S) speed
- WD1600AAJS-75M0A0, Caviar Blue, Firmware: 02.03E02

Issue:
Hard Drive became very slow in transfer of data
during operation - | Task manager| Performance |
shows peaks of 7-10 MB's, BUT: often long periods
of sub 1Mb - 245, 605, 84.7, 42 KB's. Boot time
of 5 minutes and application operating performance
issues are constantly present. This drive use to
run well over 80 MB's average. Access times are
now noted 2x-3x slower as well... WHAT HAPPENED?

This all "seemed" to become most evident after 2023-05/14:
Multiple Microsoft updates occured.
- WinVer reports:
Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.2965)
- Now Hard Drive performance all of a sudden going VERY SLOW!
date read/write is only in the sub KB range

Investigation:
- Others(!) are reporting slow operation on web for this
HP computer - No resolution solutions noted
- Is this: ???... who knows ???
1) a WD drive thing,
2) an HP chipset Mother Board thing,
3) a Windows-10 issue
- My Hard Disk Tune reports from 2017 and 2022 are identical
with max outer speed being 100 MB's and inner speed
at 50 MB's. EXCEPT; repeated running will eventually
show a long period of extremely slow operation.
Now, In 2023, operation is excessively slow - sub 1MB.
- DeviceManager reports the WD Drive driver is:
Microsoft 6/21/2006, ver 10.0.19041.3271

The only suggestion I can offer would be to install a 2.5" SATA SSD.

I installed a WD Blue SA510 SATA drive in my 8000 Elite CMT a few years ago and I have not experienced any issues with it at all.

Runs great, even at the SATA II speeds.

You can get a 500 GB drive for less than $50

The adapter works fine and would go where the 3.5" drive is currently installed:
