Bought a HP stream years ago for college, immediately after I bought it I updated it to windows 10 and it never worked again. There was barely any internal storage left. Complete waste of money. It also wouldn’t let me revert to the previous OS.
I also lost all of my files and photos I had saved on there with no way to install windows file recovery tool because I can’t update any browsers or the system. They were there and then suddenly they all vanished, they are not in the recycling bin either.
Accepting that it’s a piece of junk, I tried to factory reset to sell it / recycle. It gets to about 30% and then says it cannot complete the factory reset and restores the files.
I’ve looked at every how to guide on YouTube and can’t find a solution.
Can someone help me reset this useless laptop so I can finally get rid of it?

Using HP Recovery Manager (if available)

Select Factory Reset:
- Follow the prompts for a Factory Reset through HP Recovery Manager.
Creating a Windows Installation Media
Prepare an Installation Media:
- On another computer, download the Windows 10 installation tool from the Microsoft website.
- Create a bootable USB drive.
Boot from USB:
- Insert the bootable USB into your HP Stream.
- Restart the laptop and press Esc key and then F9 to enter the boot menu.
- Select your USB drive to boot from it.
Reinstall Windows 10:
- Follow the installation prompts to reinstall Windows 10.
- Choose Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) and delete existing partitions, including the OS partition.
- Proceed with the installation.
I hope this helps.
