In the attached picture, I have performed a clean installation of Windows 11 using Microsoft's official source. On the right side, you can see the Intel chipset drivers that were automatically installed by Windows. On the left side, I have opened the HP Drivers and Support page, which also provides these chipset drivers (the marked ones) for this PC.
Ques:
- Should I continue using the drivers installed by Windows (right-hand side), or is it better to install the chipset drivers from HP (left-hand side)?
- If I install Windows 11 using HP's factory system image for this PC, will I receive the same drivers that HP provides on its support page?
- What are the exact differences between an HP factory-installed version of Windows and a clean installation from Microsoft and which one will give better performance and stability?
Specs: Hp All-In-One PC
- 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1235U
- Intel Iris Xe Graphics (Integrated)
- 8GB RAM
Kindly help me with this.

@dough_352, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP All-In-One PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand that you've performed a clean installation of Windows 11 and are wondering whether to use the chipset drivers automatically installed by Windows or those available on the HP Support page. I'm happy to assist you.
Should I use the drivers installed by Windows or install the chipset drivers from HP?
While Windows provides basic drivers to ensure hardware functionality, we strongly recommend installing the chipset drivers from HP’s support page. These drivers are specifically tested and optimized for your HP All-in-One PC, ensuring the best compatibility, stability, and performance.
If your system is working fine with the Windows-installed drivers, you may continue using them. However, for a seamless experience and access to all hardware features, updating to the latest HP drivers is the best practice.
If I install Windows 11 using HP’s factory image, will I get the same drivers as on the support page?
Yes, HP’s factory image of Windows 11 comes preloaded with all necessary HP drivers. These are the same drivers available on the HP Support page. However, since newer versions are released over time, it’s always a good idea to check the support page for updates after reinstalling.
What’s the difference between an HP factory-installed Windows and a clean installation from Microsoft?
The HP factory-installed version of Windows includes all HP-specific drivers, utilities, and optimizations, ensuring full hardware compatibility and stability. It also comes with HP support tools like HP Support Assistant and HP Recovery Manager, which help with driver updates and troubleshooting.
A clean installation from Microsoft, on the other hand, provides a fresh Windows experience with only the essential drivers. While this version may run smoothly, some HP-specific features and optimizations might be missing, requiring manual driver installation.
Final Recommendation:
- If you have already performed a clean installation of Windows 11, we recommend installing the chipset drivers from the HP support page to ensure optimal performance.
- After installation, check Device Manager to confirm that all drivers are updated.
- If you ever face compatibility issues, you can use HP’s factory recovery image to restore the system to its original, optimized state.
I hope this helps! Let us know if you need further assistance. 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!

@dough_352, Thanks for reaching out! I completely understand your concern—it can be a bit tricky deciding whether to stick with the drivers installed by Windows or go with the ones from HP’s support page. Let me break it down for you.
Which drivers should you use?
Windows Update does a great job of installing the latest generic drivers from Intel, which can sometimes be newer than what’s available on HP’s website. However, the key difference is that the HP-provided drivers are tested and optimized specifically for your All-in-One PC.
- If your system is running smoothly with the Windows-installed drivers and you’re not experiencing any issues, you can continue using them.
- But if you notice any instability, missing features, or hardware not performing as expected, I’d recommend installing the chipset drivers from HP, as they are fine-tuned for your device.
What if Windows has newer versions of the chipset drivers?
Great question! Newer isn’t always better when it comes to drivers. Windows provides more generic drivers that may work across various systems, while HP ensures that its drivers are thoroughly tested to be 100% compatible with your exact hardware.
That said, if the newer version from Windows Update is working well, you can stick with it. But if you ever face issues (like performance drops, overheating, or connectivity problems), rolling back to HP’s recommended driver might be a better option.
I hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
