HP Slimline 450-a24
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I got a orange  square, double exclamation point, blocking HPSA icon. Try to install HPSA v9.3.141.0 twice, all failed in less than 45 minutes. I get a green checkmark for downloading and another for temporary deleting files. looks like it dosen't like OS 17763.379. Back to the chalkboard.

If you are not using Windows 10 in "S" mode, there is no reason to use this version.

Regardless, if you want to try again...

If you are using this version of Windows 10 (S mode), then downloads are restricted to those software applications available in the Windows Store. I don't run this version of Windows 10 on any of my systems. In general, I would suggest the following, which may -- or may not -- be applicable.

If you can find the HP Support Assistant in your Windows Start (windows key) > All Apps list,

Right-Click on the application > More > look for a Settings or Repair / Reset option

You could also try uninstalling the HPSA > Restart the computer and log in > Download and install a new version of the HPSA "S" mode application from the Windows Store.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

OR

If your "Windows 10" is the standard installation (not in "S" mode), then you want to use the HP Support Assistant version available at the Website for the software.

Use the "clean up" options to completely remove the existing HPSA version from the computer, then download-save-install a fresh copy of the software.

Procedure Details - HP Support Assistant – Remove and Install

Read sections, then decide how to proceed.

Remove the existing version of HPSA

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant

After the uninstall is completed, Restart the computer and log in

NOTES

For "complete cleanup” of the old version of the HP Support Assistant:

  • When / If asked whether you want to save any of the presets / personal HPSA information, respond to have your personal data associated with the program removed along with the HPSA software.

  • HP Solutions Framework is a subset of HPSA.

  1. FIRST uninstall the HP Support Assistant
  2. Restart the computer
  3. Uninstall HP Solutions Framework software from Programs and Features
  4. Restart the computer and log in.

NOTE: Framework (re)installs with the HPSA

  • After the software is uninstalled (and the computer is Restarted), check to ensure the software is actually “gone”.

Settings > Apps > Apps & features >

Scroll down the list, look for HP Support Assistant (and / or HP Support Solutions Framework)

If the stubborn software is found in the list, click and uninstall it, Restart and log in.

Download, Save, Install the latest supported HP version of the HP Support Assistant

Website / Download

HP Support Assistant

  • If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, select run as Administrator
  • After the software is installed:  Restart the computer and log in

Optional - After the software is installed, PIN the program to your Windows Start Screen

Windows key (Start) > list "All apps" > open category "H"

Click open category HP Help and Support

Right-Click on HP Support Assistant PIN to Start

Hello Dragon-Fur

I've crated a system-image first.  Following your instruction looked and was working. But SSD was slowing down after the first restart. Ran system-image reinstall HPSA 8.0 and then I deleted it completely. HP Slimline 450-a24 has been mistaken by HP software as something else. Now the ball & chain isn't coming with me period

Why is HPA so hard to uninstall and reinstall.

I did a clean install, write is 283 MB/s, read 295MB/s. My desktop only has a SATA II controller install. I boudgt it in April 27, 2017.

I have not the faintest idea why you cannot uninstall the HP Support Assistant software and in turn, the underlying HP Solutions Framework software.

I have never heard of the program set becoming stuck in the Windows File System.

In general, just like other programs, the HP Support Assistant should allow itself to be uninstalled / installed.

                                           +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Various methods for removing software from your Operating System (any recent version of Windows) include and may not be limited to:

Start (Windows key) > list all apps > scroll down, find software (for HP Software, check in cateogory "H") >

Right-Click on program and Uninstall

Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Search or scroll list > Click on software and uninstall

Traditional:

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features > scroll list > Click and Uninstall

Difficult, stubborn software:

If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and then shows up again, or is otherwise not “going away” when you tell it to do so, try an Uninstaller program.

MicrosoftFix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

Recommended by at least some people who have tried / used it:  Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

                                           +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In general, if your Windows File System is healthy, programs in "Non-S" installations of Windows behave in about the same way regardless of the exact details of your Operating System version.

For example,

Although the "run" details might be different, HP Support Assistant is generally compatbile with Windows V1803 and Windows V1809.  In both cases, and assuming the Windows File System is healthy, the "uninstall" rules apply:  The program(s) can be removed using one of the "Uninstall program" methods.

In particular, I have never used Windows in "S" mode - and I have never installed the version of HPSA that is meant for Windows in "S" mode.  There may be a whole host of issues involved in these two areas of running Windows about which I am unaware.

For example

If Windows is running in "S" mode, the version of HPSA that runs in this odd Windows version might be intregal to the File System.   IF this were true, it would make it near impossible to remove the software.

OR

If windows is Not running in "S" mode, and the version of the HPSA meant for "S" mode is installed on a regular Windows File System, the (HPSA) softare may behave in a completely different manner than expected.

This is, of course, speculation.

If I think of anything useful to add, I will post back.

Good Luck.

Well Dragon-Fur, here my story. Going to Setting in APPS there is HP Customer Experience app, HP Framework app, but HP Support Assist. app is missing. My possible out of bound reason is that I've upgrade from Windows 8.1. I'm not going to experiment with factory install Windows 8.1 disks. It is best to let this sleep,

Thank you for showing me, how you have a easier time with HP apps. In the near future, I might try to install HP Support Assist. app. I'm grateful for your assistance.
