Microsoft Windows 11

Hp laptop model: 15sfq2024na

I closed the lid of my laptop after my lecture as I usually do while leaving it on standby. I then open the lid 20 minutes later to find that the laptop won’t turn on but my caps lock symbol keeps on flashing. It sounds like it’s on because you can hear the air cooler and the power icon is on but it’s just a black screen.

Does anybody know what I can do please?

Hi @Donato679,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The flashing caps lock light on an HP laptop can be an indicator of a hardware or system-related issue. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the laptop from any external power source.
  • Remove the battery, if possible.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reinsert the battery, connect the power source, and try turning on the laptop.

Check Power Supply:

  • Make sure the power adapter is connected properly to both the laptop and a working power outlet.
  • If possible, try using a different power adapter to rule out any issues with the current one.

External Displays:

  • If you have an external monitor, connect your laptop to it to check if the issue is with the laptop's display.

Memory (RAM) Reset:

  • If you're comfortable doing so, you can try reseating the RAM modules. Turn off the laptop, disconnect the power source, and remove the battery (if applicable). Then, locate and reseat the RAM modules.

BIOS Recovery:

  • Some HP laptops have a BIOS recovery feature. Check your laptop's user manual for instructions on how to perform a BIOS recovery. This may involve pressing specific keys during startup.

Update Graphics Drivers:

  • If you can access the laptop's display settings through an external monitor, update the graphics drivers. Outdated or corrupted drivers can sometimes cause display issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
