I’ve noticed that my HP Victus (14th Gen) laptop has accumulated a lot of duplicate images over time, and they’re starting to take up a significant amount of disk space. I often see online tools offering to scan my system for free and remove duplicate images, but I’m hesitant to use them because I’m not sure how safe or reliable they are. I usually avoid those offers altogether. Is there a safe way for me to identify and remove duplicate images on my laptop myself, or are there any third-party tools?

Just a disclaimer: While searching on the web, I found this SysTools duplicate file finder, do you think I should purchase this or how to use it?

Hi @1ilmartin,

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your HP Victus laptop has many duplicate photos taking up storage, and you want a safe way to remove them. Let’s go through the safest options first before deciding whether to use third-party tools.

Safe ways to remove duplicate photos yourself

Sort images by name, size, or date in File Explorer
Open the folder containing your photos and switch to Details view.
Click the Name, Size, or Date modified column to group likely duplicates together.

Use Windows search filters
In File Explorer, search using filters like:

*.jpg or *.png

size:>5MB
This helps narrow down similar files for manual comparison.

Compare files before deleting
Open both images side-by-side to confirm they are duplicates.
This is the safest method because you control what gets deleted.

Important note:
Windows 10/11 does not include a built-in duplicate-photo detection tool, so manual review or third-party software is required for automatic detection.

I hope this helps.

When I faced the same issue on my HP Victus (14th Gen) laptop, I was also very cautious about using free online tools. Many websites promise “free scans,” but they often come with hidden risks like malware, ads, or limited functionality that pressures you to upgrade. Because of this, I avoided browser-based tools completely and looked for a safer, offline solution. At first, I tried identifying duplicate images manually using Windows File Explorer by sorting files by name and size, but this method was time-consuming and unreliable especially when images had different names but identical content. I used SoftakenSoftware Duplicate File Remover  and my experience is positive. The tool works offline which immediately made it feel more secure. It did a full scan of my system to find duplicate photos, videos, and songs based on content, not just file names. Before deleting anything, it showed a clear preview and comparison so I could double-check and avoid accidental data loss. What I liked more is that I kept complete control—no forced uploads, dubious permissions, or automatic deletions. Your data will not be deleted forever; instead, it will be saved in a recycle bin. After deleting the duplicates, I saved an important quantity of disk space and felt better organised in my system. So, sure, there is a safe way to remove duplicate images: either do it manually with patience, or use a trusted offline tool from a known vendor that provides full transparency and control. You can try the free trial and see the removal process before buying this tool.

Well While Surfing the webifound your question i dont know if you have found the ans or not but if in future anyone has the same problem as you i am commenting what i tried. I read somewhere abouta free method too but it was time consuming so i tried the another one. I used third party tool Duplicate Photos Fixer Pro By Systweak. you can try if you havent got the solution.
