Microsoft Windows 11

Hi

I am facing the issue with the right alt key on my HP wireless key board.

I have already set the language to US English but its not helping. Also nothing changes after pressing number lock.

I understand there is a need to make some changes in advance settings for the key board  but I can't see any advance settings in the SETTINGS section of my All in one PC.

Unfortunately the person who came to install the PC too dont know the solution 🙂

pl advice

Hi @Sandeeptmr,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The right Alt key on your wireless keyboard should be enabled by default, as it's a standard key on most keyboards. If it's not functioning as expected, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Keyboard Layout: Ensure that your keyboard layout settings are correct. Sometimes, keyboard layouts can be accidentally changed, leading to unexpected behavior of certain keys. You can check and adjust the keyboard layout settings in your operating system's control panel or settings menu.

Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve keyboard issues. Restart your computer and see if the right Alt key starts working as expected.

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • For Windows: Open the Device Manager, locate your keyboard under the "Keyboards" section, right-click on it, and select "Update driver." You can also visit the HP support website to download and install the latest drivers for your keyboard model.
  • For macOS: Keyboard drivers are typically built into macOS, so updating the operating system itself may help if there's a software-related issue.

Check Accessibility Settings:

  • On Windows: Some accessibility settings might affect the behavior of certain keys. Go to the Ease of Access settings and check if any settings are causing the issue.
  • On macOS: Similarly, check the Accessibility settings under System Preferences to ensure no settings are affecting the keyboard behavior.

Test on Another Computer: If possible, test the wireless keyboard on another computer to see if the issue is specific to your HP All-in-One PC. This can help you determine if the problem is with the keyboard or the computer itself.

Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the keyboard for any physical damage, like spills or debris that might be causing the key to not function properly.

Reset Keyboard Settings:

  • On Windows: You can try resetting the keyboard settings to their default values. Open the Control Panel, navigate to "Hardware and Sound," and then "Devices and Printers." Right-click on your keyboard and select "Properties." In the "Hardware" tab, click on "Properties," then go to the "Driver" tab and click on "Driver Details." If there's a file named "kbdclass.sys," the driver is most likely using default settings.
  • On macOS: Resetting keyboard settings might involve resetting the NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory) or SMC (System Management Controller). These processes can be a bit technical, so it's recommended to follow the instructions provided by Apple for your specific Mac model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
