Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Sorry if this has been answered before, I have a hp stream it’s a brilliant laptop except the lack of memory is becoming a real issue there’s not even enough space to update windows I use usb sticks for movies etc but it doesn’t let me use the space on the usb to update windows is there a setting I’m missing to allow a usb stick to be used as extra storage if not would it let me use a external hard drive to get the space to update windows
