Welcome to HP Support Community, @KAYEMBA2050.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to recover your HP ProDesk 400 G5 Microtower PC after a BIOS firmware issue. HP provides the firmware as an executable file which can be used to create a recovery drive, rather than a direct .bin file.

Here are the official and safest steps to restore the BIOS on your Windows 11, HP ProDesk 400 G5 Microtower PC.

Method 1: Attempt an Emergency BIOS Recovery

First, try using the built-in recovery feature. This can often work even if the screen is black.

  1. Shut down the computer completely.
  2. Connect the power adapter.
  3. Press and hold the Windows key + B key at the same time.
  4. While still holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds, then release it. Continue holding the Windows + B keys until you hear a series of beeps or see activity on the screen.
  5. The BIOS recovery process should start automatically. Let it complete without interrupting it. The PC may restart several times.

Method 2: Create a BIOS Recovery USB Drive

If the method above does not work, you will need to create a recovery USB on another working computer.

  1. On a working PC, go to the link for the firmware file: HP ProDesk 400 G5 BIOS Update (sp156662.exe).
  2. Download and run the sp156662.exe file.
  3. Follow the on-screen wizard. When prompted, select the option to Create Recovery USB flash drive.
  4. Insert a blank USB flash drive and let the utility create the recovery drive.
  5. Once done, insert the USB drive to the ProDesk 400 G5.
  6. With the USB drive inserted, repeat the steps from Method 1.
  7. The system should detect the files on the USB and begin the recovery.

The executable file (.exe) contains the necessary BIOS files. The utility will extract them and place them onto the USB drive in the correct structure for the recovery to work. This is the HP-supported method for recovering from a corrupted BIOS. For your reference, you can check this article which contains the instructions to create a recovery USB drive.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
