I can access the windows security through settings as seen below but after I want to take care of the action recommended it loads up the window security tab but it just stays black (as seen in the image above). I have tried repairing it and resetting it but it still appears black.

Hi @User_6980386 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with the Windows Security dashboard showing a black screen could be caused by several factors, such as corrupted system files, conflicting settings, or issues with the Windows Security application itself.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Run SFC and DISM Scans

Corrupted system files could be the cause of the problem.

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run the following command to check for and repair any corrupted system files:

bashCopy codesfc /scannow

  • After the SFC scan completes, run this command to repair the Windows image:

mathematicaCopy codeDISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  • Once both scans are complete, restart your PC and try accessing Windows Security again.

2. Reinstall Windows Security

The issue might be with the Windows Security app itself.

  • Open PowerShell as Administrator.
  • Run this command to uninstall Windows Security:

powershellCopy codeGet-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage

  • After this, restart your computer.
  • Check if the issue is resolved.

3. Update Graphics Drivers

If your graphics drivers are outdated or malfunctioning, it might cause display issues such as a black screen.

  • Go to Device Manager.
  • Expand Display Adapters and right-click your GPU.
  • Choose Update driver and follow the prompts.
  • Alternatively, you can visit the GPU manufacturer's website (NVIDIA or AMD) and download the latest driver for your card.

4. Perform a Clean Boot

A clean boot helps identify if third-party software or services are causing conflicts.

  • Press Windows + R and type msconfig.
  • In the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  • Go to the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager, and disable all startup items.
  • Restart your computer and see if the issue persists.

5. Create a New User Account

Sometimes, user profile corruption can cause these issues.

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
  • Click Add someone else to this PC and follow the prompts to create a new user account.
  • Log into the new account and see if Windows Security works properly.

6. Check for Windows Updates

Ensure that your system is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates, as these often include important fixes.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click Check for updates and install any available updates.

7. Perform an In-Place Upgrade

As a last resort, you can perform an in-place upgrade to reinstall Windows without losing any data.

  • Download the Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website.
  • Choose Upgrade this PC now and follow the instructions.
  • This process will reinstall Windows while keeping your files intact.
