Hi @Nanaof7kids,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When the system does not wake, you may notice the screen remains dark, the system stays silent, and pressing keys or moving the mouse produces no response. This typically indicates that wake-from-input is not enabled or power settings need adjustment

Follow the steps below based on the procedure shown in the HP video:

Step 1: Enable Wake from Keyboard/Mouse in Device Manager

Sit at the system, move the mouse and gently press keys. If nothing responds, proceed:

  1. Press Windows Key + X → Select Device Manager
  2. Expand:
    • Keyboards
    • Mice and other pointing devices
  3. Right-click your keyboard device → Select Properties
  4. Go to the Power Management tab
  5. Check:
    • Allow this device to wake the computer
  6. Click OK

👉 Repeat the same steps for the mouse device

You should feel the system become responsive later once these settings are applied correctly.

Step 2: Check USB Power Settings

Sometimes, USB ports are placed into a low-power state where they cannot send a wake signal.

  1. In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers
  2. For each USB Root Hub
    • Right-click → Properties
    • Go to Power Management
    • Uncheck: Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
  3. Click OK

Step 3: Adjust Power Plan Settings

  1. Go to Control Panel → Power Options
  2. Click Change plan settings (next to active plan)
  3. Click Change advanced power settings

Now carefully adjust:

🔹 Sleep Settings

  • Allow wake timers → Set to Enable

🔹 USB Settings

  • USB selective suspend setting → Set to Disabled

👉 These settings ensure the system remains ready to respond instead of going into a deeper inactive state

Step 4: Disable Fast Startup (Recommended by HP)

Fast Startup can sometimes interfere with wake events.

  1. Go to Control Panel → Power Options
  2. Click Choose what the power buttons do
  3. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  4. Uncheck:
    • Turn on fast startup
  5. Save changes
