HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c0000 (320M3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I just purchased the above laptop and can't get many websites to load.  It is very frustrating because I can't look at any banking sites, or many others that are very important.  I would sincerely love some advise because I cannot use it like this.

Thank you so very much.

Susan

Short Version - Answer

"Surfing the 'Net"

What makes the difference??

Check...

  • Your browser - the type, for example, Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox -- is in charge of your Internet activities when using the browser.

  • Browser Security varies widely from one Browser to another.  What you can do, where you can go, even what you can open, within in the Browser's Settings is also different when using one browser as compared to the settings in a different browser.
  • One thing to try when destination Websites are not behaving:  Clear Cookies and Cache in the browser.
  • Some browsers include a password manager -- if the browser has been synced to a new device, make sure the entirety of what you need to be copied to the new browser has been included.  See your Browser provider for information of this type.  If you don't know what this is, you might not be using a browser to supports Sync and / or a password manager.

Details / Additional Information

  • The computer hardware - the brand and type of computer - does not care what you do.  This is important.  Some things, like where you go and what you do on the Internet are just not tied to the computer hardware beyond the hardware needing a way to physically connect to the outside world (for example, Wireless network / Ethernet to router).

  • Windows creates the working environment that allows you to use the computer hardware and communicate with the outside world.
  • Windows Updates should be current and installedPending Updates, that is, those updates that are waiting for the user to intervene and / or Restart the system, can result in odd behavior.  This "oddness" is not limited to using a browser to surf the 'net -- Pending updates can result in menus that do not work as expected and programs that won't open, close, or run correctly.  Not sure?  In Windows Updates, Check for Updates and Restart the system if needed.  Brand new computers might need more than one round of Updates to get caught up.
  • Windows influences your Internet activities to the extent that you give it permission to do so.  In general, most people don't restrict their Internet connections from within Windows or within the onboard Windows Defender security software.
  • Running a standard user account might influence what you can do with the Windows system.  This might include a restricted account that lacks administrative access (for example, the account you might assign to a child or other person that should not have full access to the system).  In general, you would know if you were running a limited user account.
  • If you are running Windows S Mode, your life is different in many ways from the world of "full" Windows.  Only apps from the Microsoft Store can be installed, for example.  There are other differences, too, that restrict operations.

  • Purchased (or Free versions of) Security Software you install might -- or might not - restrict certain activities.  It is up to you (the consumer) to allow or restrict certain actions or tasks within your Security Software settings and configuration.
