Hi @caslaw63,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Pavilion p6680t CTO Desktop PC is experiencing a serious software issue, potentially related to HP Support Framework (HPSF) or a corrupted system file. Let's try a few steps to resolve this.
Restart Your PC in Safe Mode
- Turn off your computer by holding the power button for about 10 seconds.
- Turn it back on and as soon as it starts, press F8 repeatedly (or Shift + F8 for newer systems) to access Advanced Startup Options.
- If you see the Advanced Options menu, select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter.
- Once in Safe Mode, uninstall HP Support Assistant if it's causing issues:
- Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl, and hit Enter.
- Find HP Support Assistant, right-click, and select Uninstall.
Perform a System Restore
If Safe Mode is not working or the issue persists, try a System Restore:
- Restart the PC and enter Advanced Startup Options:
- If Windows doesn’t boot normally, turn the PC on and off three times (force shutdown by holding the power button).
- On the third boot, Windows should enter Recovery Mode.
- Click on Advanced Options > System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the issue started and follow the prompts.
Run Automatic Repair
If System Restore doesn't work:
- Boot into Advanced Startup Options (as mentioned earlier).
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.
- Let Windows attempt to repair itself.
Check for Corrupt System Files
If you can boot into Safe Mode or a Command Prompt:
- Press Windows + X, then select Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type the following command and press Enter:
sfc /scannow
- Wait for the scan to complete and follow any instructions.
Reinstall Windows (Last Resort)
If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Windows 10 using a USB bootable media.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Sounds like your system might be infected with malware, possibly related to fapello or similar threats. Try booting into Safe Mode and running a malware scan to clean it up and restore functionality.
