While using the monitor (HP 727pm, the one with the camera) in portrait (pivot) mode, I noticed an issue and wanted to check whether I might be missing a setting.

 

The monitor’s OSD menu rotates correctly in pivot mode and remains readable. However, I could not find a similar option for the integrated webcam.


When the monitor is used in portrait orientation, the webcam image appears rotated and cannot be used properly without additional third-party software.

 

Is there a setting on the monitor to adjust the webcam orientation in pivot mode, or is there a recommended solution for this use case?

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

 

  • Which operating system are you using (Windows 10, Windows 11, etc.)?
  • Does the rotation issue occur in all applications (Zoom, Teams, Camera app), or only in specific ones?
  • Have you installed the latest HP monitor drivers and firmware updates?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check Camera App Settings
    • Open the Windows Camera app. Some apps allow you to rotate or flip the image manually.
  2. Update Drivers
  3. Windows Device Settings
    • Go to Device Manager > Imaging Devices, right-click the webcam, and check for driver updates.
    • Some third-party apps may override orientation, so testing in the default Camera app helps confirm if it’s a driver-level issue.
  4. Application-Level Rotation
    • In conferencing apps like Zoom or Teams, check video settings many allow you to rotate or mirror the camera feed.
  5. Limitations of Hardware
  • The integrated webcam is physically fixed in landscape orientation. Unlike the OSD, it doesn’t auto-rotate with the monitor. For portrait use, manual rotation in software is currently the recommended workaround.

I am using both Windows 11 and macOS. I tested the integrated webcam primarily with Microsoft Teams, which does not provide an option to rotate the camera image as far as I could determine.

 

However, if the webcam does not support automatic rotation in portrait mode by design (unlike the OSD), then the operating system, application, or current firmware version would not make a difference in this case.

 

Thanks for the clarification. I was able to work around this using third-party software (OBS Studio). I’ll mark this as accepted.
