I have tried uninstalling hpsa several times with no luck. After Ive attempted the uninstall process, Im only able to find it if I type hpsa in the search bar. Otherwise I cant locate it. Its obviously not completely uninstalled. And if I try to reinstall, i get a message that a newer version is already installed. The program will now close. Whats my next step?

Hi @MsAndy1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊
It sounds like you're dealing with a stubborn or incomplete uninstall of HP Support Assistant (HPSA) on your HP Notebook - 15-f271wm running Windows 10 (64-bit). This is a known issue, and HP has provided a method for a "complete cleanup" to fully remove HPSA and its companion software.
✅ Steps to Completely Uninstall HP Support Assistant:
- Uninstall via Control Panel (if not already done):
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Uninstall HP Support Assistant and HP Support Solutions Framework if listed.
- Delete Remaining Files:
- Press Win + R, type %ProgramFiles(x86)%, and press Enter.
- Delete the HP Support Assistant folder if it exists.
- Also, check %ProgramData% and %AppData% for any HP-related folders.
- Clean the Registry (Advanced):
- Open regedit (Windows + R → type regedit).
- Search for HP Support Assistant and delete related keys only if you're comfortable editing the registry.
- Backup your registry first: File > Export.
- Reboot your system.
- Reinstall the latest version:
- Download the latest HPSA installer from HP: 👉 HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
