would appreciate advice on issues of two of my computers, both somewhat dated but until lately functional. They are experiencing problems apparently due to recent Windows 10 updates:
Desktop - HP Touchsmart 610- 1050f.
Laptop - Pavillion g7; model g7 -2246nr (19 in. screen).
Functionality of both computers evidently compromised by automatically installed updates of Windows 10 in May or June, 2019. Windows 10 has been operating system on both since 2017, for most part working reliably. Previously both worked on Windows 8.
Performance issues include: slow loading, timing out of URLs, blue screens, freezing of screens in email, on MS Word and on multiple websites, MS One Note appearing without prompting, re-starting without prompting. Also affected have been audio functions, with no sound or mic input in Communication Headphones mode (while internal Speaker working OK). The latter is in important for my use of Dragon voice recognition app.
MS Technical Support suggests that recent updates of Windows 10 may be incompatible with older HP computers, specifically:
BIOS settings, which date back to 2011 on desktop and 2013 on laptop.
Motherboards, which date back to 2011 on desktop and 2013 on laptop.
According to MS Tech Support these two functions may need to be updated or replaced.
MS Tech Support has also advised re-installing Windows 8 which apparently remains compatible with older computers. This radical measure calls for eradicating all installed apps. Others suggest re-install of Windows 10, Both are problematic, in particular with re-installing multiple HP software items which had been factory installed.
While I continue to work with MS Tech Support on remediation, experts of HP Community may be able to offer their own useful options.
Many thanks for your attention to the foregoing.
