Hallo,

I bought a HP ERK-321A keyboard. But I can't seem to find the Fn lock option. I tried the normal combinations like Fn + esc/shift/caps lock, but nothing helped.

I read about being able to turn it off using the bios, but i am a person who uses both the F1...F12 combinations and the others too, like the play/pause and the volume keys.

I want to know if there's an option like it comes on other laptops and keyboards where I can switch between the two seamlessly with two or three key combinations.

Kind regards

Hi @clueless00,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP ERK-321A keyboard does not appear to have a dedicated Fn lock key or toggle function via key combinations, based on standard user experiences and documentation. However, you may still be able to manage Fn functionality effectively with the following options.

BIOS/UEFI Settings

Some HP keyboards allow you to set the default behavior of the function keys in the BIOS/UEFI. Here’s how to check:

Enter BIOS/UEFI:

  • Restart your computer and press the appropriate key during startup (usually Esc, F10, or F2 for HP systems).

Locate Function Key Behavior:

  • Look for an option like "Action Keys Mode" or "Function Key Behavior."
  • Change the setting to one of these:
    • Enabled: Uses media functions (e.g., play/pause, volume) by default.
    • Disabled: Uses standard F1–F12 keys by default.

Save and Exit:

  • Save the changes and restart your system.

Use HP's Keyboard Software (If Available)

Check if the keyboard is supported by HP software, such as HP Hotkey Support or HP Command Center, which might allow customization of Fn key behavior.

Dual-Purpose Usage

Since you use both F1–F12 and media keys, consider these tips:

  • Use Fn + desired key for the alternate functionality when default behavior is set.
  • Combine with remapping tools to simplify switching if needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Heyy,

thanks for your reply.

  • I was not able to find the settings in my bios [i have a gigabyte motherboard].
  • I don't have any of the mentioned software and had no luck in trying to download one. [I am not working on a HP PC, nor do I own one]

Regards
