Hi @Kp1451,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's BIOS system needs an update and the cursor is not working, you can follow these steps.

Check for BIOS Update:

Visit HP Support Website:

  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Enter your laptop model and look for BIOS updates in the Drivers & Downloads section.

Download BIOS Update:

  • Download the latest BIOS update file for your laptop. This is usually a .exe file.

Prepare for BIOS Update:

Use a Different Input Device:

  • If your cursor isn’t working, try connecting an external mouse to see if it works.

Ensure Power Supply:

  • Make sure your laptop is plugged into a power source to prevent it from shutting down during the update.

Update BIOS:

Run the BIOS Update File:

  • If you have an external mouse or trackpad working, you can double-click the downloaded BIOS update file to start the process.

Follow On-Screen Instructions:

  • Follow the instructions provided by the BIOS update utility. Your laptop will likely restart during the update process.

Alternative: BIOS Update via HP Support Assistant:

  • If you cannot use the external mouse, you might try using HP Support Assistant (if installed) to update the BIOS. It can sometimes handle updates with minimal user interaction.

If Cursor Remains Non-Functional:

Check Device Manager:

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Win + X, then press M to open Device Manager.
  • Look for any issues with the mouse or touchpad drivers and update them.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart your laptop and repeatedly press F8 (or Shift + F8 for some models) to enter Safe Mode.
  • Check if the cursor works in Safe Mode and attempt the BIOS update from there.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
