Hi @chandansharma08

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when the mouse suddenly stops responding—it interrupts everything you’re trying to do. Thank you for already checking that it’s connected.

Let’s go through a clear set of steps together to bring it back to life.

Step 1: Check Physical Connection

  • If it’s a wired mouse, unplug it and reconnect to another USB port on your laptop or desktop.
  • If it’s a wireless mouse, replace the batteries and ensure the USB receiver is firmly connected.

Step 2: Verify Device Recognition

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Confirm if your mouse appears in the list.
  • If it shows with a warning icon, right‑click and select Uninstall device, then restart the computer. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Step 3: Test on Another Computer

  • Connect the mouse to another Windows PC.
  • If it works there, the issue is with your computer’s settings.
  • If it doesn’t, the mouse hardware may need replacement.

Step 4: Update Drivers

Step 5: Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart your computer and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to open System Diagnostics.
  • Run the Mouse and Input Device Test to confirm hardware functionality.

Step 6: Test with HP App

  • Install the HP App on your Windows PC.
  • Add your device and check for any alerts related to input devices.
  • Guide: Install and Use the HP App

By following these steps, you can confirm whether the issue is with the mouse hardware, the USB port, or the driver. Starting with reconnecting and testing on another port usually clears the problem quickly.
