HP ProDesk 600 G4 Small Form Factor PC

Hello, for about a week now, I haven't been able to update the BIOS on my HP ProDesk 600 G4-G5 Desktop computers via the network. Why is this happening?

I get the error: The protocol defined in the URL is not supported.

I've been having the same issue on ProDesk 600 G5, EliteBook 830 G6, 830 G7 and  830 G9 - Guessing it would probably be the same on all models.

I've tried via USB-C Docks, USB-C network adapters, and in the case of the 600 G5 and 830 G6, direct into network port, but get the same 'protocol not supported' message in each case.

I've also tried over two differently configured corporate networks and a regular home internet connection.

I've been updating BIOS this way for over a year with no problems, and this has just started in the last 7-10 days

I'm using the default hp.com URL, and no proxy server. IP and DNS are set to auto, and the built in test in BIOS shows it's picking up the correct internal DNS entries. For arguments sake, also set DNS to 8.8.8.8 to rule out our DNS, but the same issue.

Installing the BIOS through Windows from HP works.

Currently rebuilding and BIOS updating  5-10 devices per week - Not a lot in the scheme of things, but having to go through HP.com to download the BIOS update takes time.

Yes, I agree. This issue needs to be resolved. I haven't been able to update from my home or company network either. Doing so through Windows is time-consuming.

Especially since the HP Pro 400 G9 SFF download page doesn't show the same BIOS update as the one available through the BIOS Network Update function. Version 2.16.xx is displayed, but the method we prefer would show 2.22.0. It was still working two weeks ago.

When I try to update the BIOS right now, it doesn't download anything and gives a Protocol error.

We've been having the same issue with some of our EliteBook devices. The only way we could get the BIOS updating was via a recovery USB created by the manual BIOS installer from HP's website. Not even Windows would download the BIOS. Seems like HP changed something on their end and didn't think about what else needed to be updated in tandem.

Yes, we expect the problem to be resolved.
