HP Pavilion All-in-One - 27-a227c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm a novice when it comes to computers.

I'm maxed out on memory/storage (are these the same thing?)

How do I get more and how do I install it?

@JJ-OK, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

First, let’s clarify:

  • Memory (RAM) helps your computer run programs faster and handle more tasks at once.
  • Storage (Hard Drive or SSD) is where your files, apps, and Windows are saved.

They’re different, but both can be upgraded to improve performance and space.

Upgrading Memory (RAM)

Your HP Pavilion 27-a227c supports up to 16 GB of DDR4-2133 RAM. If you currently have 8 GB or less, you can add more.

Steps:

Check current RAM:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Click the Performance tab → Memory to see how much you have.

Buy compatible RAM:

  • Look for DDR4-2133 SO-DIMM modules.
  • Example: Crucial 8GB DDR4-2133 SO-DIMM

Upgrading Storage

Your PC likely came with:

  • 128 GB M.2 SSD (for Windows)
  • 1 TB 3.5" SATA HDD (for files)

You can:

  • Replace the HDD with a larger one (e.g., 2 TB or more)
  • Replace the SSD with a faster/larger M.2 NVMe SSD (e.g., 500 GB or 1 TB)

Steps:

Back up your data.

Choose your upgrade:

  • For SSD: M.2 NVMe 2280 (e.g., Samsung 970 EVO)
  • For HDD: 3.5" SATA (e.g., Seagate Barracuda 2TB)

Reinstall Windows (if replacing the SSD):

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
