Microsoft Windows 11

I'm working on a brand new TP01-2xxx desktop that booted Out Of Box to Windows 11.   Is it possible to run this system on Windows 10 instead?  If so, what are the steps to do so?  Thanks.

Hi, @eccoing

HP has a set of W10 drivers on the support page, so you should be able to install W10.

HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-2000a Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support

Before you get started, if your PC is supported, I recommend you use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W11, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

After you do that, you can make a W10 64-bit USB installer with the media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Boot from the installation media and install W10.

The W11 product key should work with W10.

Then you can install the W10 drivers from the support page.

Great write up and overall solution.  Thank you.

When you say: "

Then you can install the W10 drivers from the support page."

Is there something specific you're thinking about as to why it wouldn't?  Is there anyway to confirm that it will before I start out?

Also, would you agree if I go down this path as you suggested and that it doesn't work, then I'm no worse off and can do the W11 reinstall and be back to the original OOB experience?

You're very welcome.

I have never downgraded a PC from W11 to W10 but others on this forum have and reported the W11 product key works.

If your PC was supported by the HP cloud recovery tool and you were able to create a bootable USB recovery drive, I agree that you have nothing to lose by trying to install W10.

Even if you can't make a bootable USB recovery drive with the cloud recovery tool, you can make a plain W11 installation flash drive and reinstall W11 the same way you would install W10.

I'd like to double check on one more item you mentioned here.

PC is supported, however, i saw there's a windows command "Create Recovery Drive".  Is this essentially the same as using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool, as long as the system is running without issues?    And will this "create recover drive" also preserve the drivers and software that came with the PC, perhaps without the OOB experience though?   I was thinking of using this method to create that WIn11 backup as you suggested before I started.

The only time I created a Windows recovery drive, it didn't work when I went to restore my system.

Since then, I use the free Macrium Reflect utility to create a system image which I store on a portable hard drive and a bootable rescue USB or DVD which I boot from to access the system image.

That restores my existing configuration...operating system, all programs and personal files to the date I created the recovery image.

I have used that a few times successfully.

According to this article, creating a recovery drive will not restore your files and programs that did not come with your PC.
