I just got a new computer, hours ago, new wireless keyboard, and mouse, everything is new, can't connect by bluetooth. Yes, new batteries, yes, bluetooth is on on the computer. There is no name on the keyboard to detect, there is no flashing pairing light, there is no on/off on keyboard. So far I hate the wireless feature.

@JAWeis, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your brand-new wireless keyboard and mouse won’t connect via Bluetooth. Let’s walk through a few steps to get things working smoothly.

First, let’s clarify the type of keyboard and mouse:

HP offers two types of wireless input devices:

  1. Bluetooth – connects via your PC’s built-in Bluetooth.
  2. Wireless USB dongle – connects via a small USB receiver (often pre-installed in the battery compartment or packaging).

Please check:

  • Is there a USB dongle included with your keyboard/mouse? If yes, plug it into a USB port and the devices should connect automatically.
  • If there’s no dongle, then it’s likely a Bluetooth-only device.

If it’s a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse:

Let’s try these steps:

Step 1: Put the keyboard/mouse into pairing mode

  • Look for a pairing button (often hidden or recessed). If there’s no visible button or light, try holding down a key (like Esc or Fn) while inserting the batteries.
  • Some HP Bluetooth keyboards enter pairing mode automatically when powered on for the first time.

If there’s no flashing light or response, the device may not be entering pairing mode. Try removing and reinserting the batteries after 10 seconds.

Step 2: Enable Bluetooth on your PC

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned ON.
  • Click “Add device” > Bluetooth, and wait for the keyboard/mouse to appear.

Step 3: Check for driver or Bluetooth issues

  • Press Windows + X > Device Manager > Expand Bluetooth.
  • Right-click your Bluetooth adapter > Update driver.
  • If Bluetooth is missing, run the HP Support Assistant to install missing drivers.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
