OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-1000i (6C1Q7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a quite newly OMEN 40L Desktop PC which right from the beginning had issues when starting programs. Very often - but not always - when starting a programm it takes up to 10sec or more until the program starts (e.g. firefox, thunderbird, ms-office, ... - which I would expect from such a new system to be up and running 'immediately'). Having task-manager opened during the 'startup' nothing special can be observed (cpu load < 10%, memory < 30%, ...) - and no updates in progress in the background.

I already tried a lot of things to overcome the issue (all the HW tests as provided by the HP utilities), I did an inplace upgrade of win 11 to 'reinstall' win 11 (however keeping all the data and programms), run dism and sfc (which often find some point to repair), de-installed OMEN gaming hub (as this was using by far  most of cpu time as reported in the task manager) (~1.5 hours!, meanwile the programm using the 2nd most time was in a low range of minutes ). I also deactivated bitlocker on my SSD. Id disabled Intel Arc control from always running - and just run it manually from time to time to check for updates. Programms and drivers are hold up-to-date.

However, none of the things done up to now resultet in a real solution / provided me some hint what could be broken (sometimes I had the impression that it's better, but it was just for a short time).

Bevor I completely re-install the PC from scratch I wonder if there are some additional things I can try to solve the problem.

Thus - some ideas? Somebody who had the same problems and found a solution?

Some information about the SW used which may have an impact

- Bitdefender

- Acronis True Image

- Office 2021

- Actual Monitors

- Everything

- HP Support Assistant

- myHP

- Logitech SetPoint

- Logitech Options+

Many thanks for any feedback / hint.

Cheers

Sorry I don't have a definitive answer and can only provide guesses ...

It might be due to BitDefender -- especially if it is scanning every executable when you launch it. I had issues like this with Windows Defender, so I installed a utility to disable that -- since MS won't allow you to disable it.

It's probably not ATI -- as I have used that in the past and not run into this issue.

Don't know why you have two Logitech apps as only options+ is needed. I used to have both on a laptop because I would switch off mice but when Logitech added my BT mouse to Options+ support, I removed SetPoint.  Unless you are using two mice, one of which is not supported by Options+, I would remove SetPoint.

Actual Monitors is (I think) for multiple display situations, so if you are only using the AIO display, you don't need that.

You could try going into Settings and disabling the Startup items one at a time to see if any of them is causing the performance slowdown.

Hi WAWood

many thanks for your feedback. Some points:

  • I use the two Logitech programs as one is for the keyboard (K750 - setpoint) and the other for the mouse
  • I tried already to play with the startup stuff - but the issues is, that the problem not appears all the time - so sometimes I thought I found the issue, but some later moment in time the issue was back ...
  • Bitdefender is a good tipp - however, I also tried in this program to disable some of the functions / options - and always the issue happend again after some time ... (e.g. some minutes ago I disabled the 'bitdefender shield' - seemed to work fine... - opened chrome, OK, opened opera - took 10 sec to start - so again no success...)
    • maybe I'll try to completely un-install it and try another one for some  time - and I'll see...

I still hope some further information could reach me which can help....

Many thanks and kind regards

I only mentioned BitLocker because I was trying to move a LOT of files on my Win10Pro fileserver box and it was taking FOREVER because Defender was scanning every executable it saw.  I used a utility to disable Defender and the delay went away.  I also use a couple of other AV products in past years, including McAfee, and they too forced the PC to a crawl by scanning every executable that got launched.  The one I use now, MalwareBytes AntiMalware does no scan the executables as they launch, so there is no delay.
