Brand new Omen 45L is performing noticeably worse with "Performance" mode turned on in the Omen Gaming Hub. The balanced setting is fine for what I do, but I do home tech for a living and really want to understand this. I've done the basics like updating bios, checking Windows game mode settings, updating drivers, etc. Every time I run a benchmark the Balanced setting comes out 10 % better than Performance. I don't plan on messing with the Extreme setting at all. The computer is amazing. I bumped up the RAM for Ai photo editing and it is an absolute beast now. I'm going to leave well enough alone for now, but I do want to know if this is a known issue as a couple people have hinted at online, or if there is something unique to my machine that needs to be addressed. Thanks.

Hi @jct021371,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's great to hear that you're enjoying your new Omen 45L and that it's performing well overall. The behavior you're describing, where the "Balanced" setting outperforms the "Performance" mode in benchmarks, is indeed interesting. While it's not common for a performance mode to result in lower performance, there can be various factors at play.
Here are a few things you might consider.
Thermal Throttling: Some systems may have more aggressive cooling mechanisms when set to "Performance" mode, which can lead to thermal throttling if not managed effectively. This could potentially impact performance. You might want to monitor the temperature of your components during benchmark tests to see if there's a significant difference between the two modes.
Power Settings: In "Performance" mode, the system might be configured to use more power, but this can sometimes lead to stability issues or conflicts with certain applications. Check if the system power settings are causing any conflicts or issues.
Software Optimization: It's possible that certain applications or games are not optimized for the specific settings that "Performance" mode introduces. This can result in the observed performance difference. Checking for updates to the Omen Gaming Hub software.
BIOS/UEFI Settings: While you've updated the BIOS, there might be specific settings in the UEFI/BIOS related to performance modes that could be adjusted. However, be cautious when changing these settings, as they can impact system stability.
Driver Issues: Ensure that all drivers, including graphics drivers, are up-to-date. Sometimes, new hardware may have driver updates that can improve performance or resolve compatibility issues.
Benchmarking Tools: Make sure you're using reliable and up-to-date benchmarking tools. Sometimes, certain tools may not be fully compatible with the latest hardware or settings, leading to inaccurate results.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the reply. I've had some bad experiences while changing BIOS settings on certain pre-builts (if you even can) so I'm going to leave it as is. It's performing above spec in balanced mode so there's no reason to fool with performance settings other than to satisfy my curiosity.
